The mite himself, without protection, is as delicate as a chocolate fireguard on melting point, and a few solitary shots will kill him, so it's essential to keep him under cover at all times. I also would like more power in his wings, because Bob can't properly fly in them. A definite drawback to the game is how anybody targeting Bob can accurately shoot him first time, as small as he is. The feature I like about the game, is how certain types of character must be p...more

Premium Review Messiah (PC): Needs some of Handel's Messiah? (447 words)

Messiah - A game I spotted with a preview rating in ComputerActive, and seemed to have a lot of potential. Well, it did, and does, it needs finding perhaps. Developed through Shiny and Interplay, the delay of this game coming out I understand raged onwards for some time, and a hurried ending looks to have taken place. This, unfortunately seems to have turned the cards slightly from a most original game to a regular platformer. I'm not saying there are no decent platform games out there, on the contrary, (Flashback was once a favourite of mine), but this could have been something special. Messiah concerns Bob, a young winged sprite who has the power to control ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Repossessed (462 words)

Shiny always have a reputation to make off the wall and original games, Earthworm Jim, MDK and, more recently, Sacrifice. And as good as these games were (bar Earthworm Jim) they have failed to sell as much as they deserved. Obviously gamers prefer the safer, more normal mainstream games, which is a shame because Shiny's games are little gems. Messiah is no exception. It has a weird concept (taking control of an angel called Bob, saving the now deadbeat planet Earth from a guy called Father Prime, while doing so possessing a range of people from police, engineers to pimp daddies) yet it the gameplay is familiar, it has that console platform ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Messiah (PC): The second coming. (182 words)
by - written on 04/09/00 (Very useful, 25 readings)
Rating:

Messiah is an unusual mix of an action/adventure shoot everything you see game, and a very complicated strategy game. You are Bob, an angel sent down from heaven by God to clean up earth. As Bob you can possess the bodies of several different people from cops to hookers. You also have the choice of several different moves and weapons. Messiah is not easy to use. It is incredibly complicated, both to run on your system (system requirements are massive) and to play. Messiah has a 15 age rating as it is not really suitable for players under the age of 15 due to the nature of some of the characters. The language is bad in some places. ...  Read the complete review

Your guardian angel (825 words)

When a game undergoes a lengthy development period plagued by delays, a certain frustration sets in. Once the final game is released, how are you supposed to go about forming an opinion without remembering the hype and anticipation? For years (yes, literally years) the game Messiah has been "just a few scant months away." As snippets of information were released and preview after preview written, it became easy to give up hope altogether and find other upcoming games to salivate over. Finally, Messiah has been released, and although the end result may not live up to the years of hype, the finished product is an OK ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Messiah (PC): You can't give booze to baby (308 words)

What a bunch of arse. There I was, expected bandana-ed 80s throwback Dave Perry to deliver another quality item after MDK and what do I get? A bloody third rate Paradroid clone. It seems that at no point in the long gestation period of this project did anyone actually consider putting some gameplay into this monstrosity. I feel like I should identify my gripes with this game. Where should I start though? Certainly, the graphics don't strike me as being particularly advenced compared to MDK's and yet the game ran at a crawl on my machine, even after the addition of a disgustingly expensive 3DFX card. I'm sure I could have fed an entire african village ...  Read the complete review
