"Now out for the PC, Metal Gear Solid came out originally for the PlayStation in 1998. It's a mix of hiding and killing as you take the role of Solid Snake, a man on a mission to stop his brother: Liquid Snake. Developed by Konami and published by Microsoft this was released in the UK on 29 September 2000."

      A great achievement

Generally speaking, reviewing a game on multiple platforms seems a bit daft, but given how Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation remains one of my favourite games, I felt it apt to check out how it fared on the PC. While my expectations were low, as so many PC ports of console games are very clearly half-baked and lacking effort, Metal Gear Solid does them justice, and is one of the best console to PC ports that I've ever played.

The game is almost universally known among gamers; the protagonist is Solid Snake, a seasoned soldier who must infiltrate a special base an prevent a nuclear strike. In this stead, he will have to employ magnificent stealth skills, as well as take down members of his former unit FOXHOUND, who each have special skills.

This is a superb game on whatever platform you play it; the gameplay is superbly constructed, and although the AI isn't so great, in that they rigidly adhere to a strict field of vision and are very dumb, that is in many ways part of the charm, for creator Hideo Kojima has a very idiosyncratic, VERY Japanese sense of humour. There's a huge array of weapons, and the set pieces are extremely memorable throughout.

In terms of this PC port, though, it is very impressive; the graphics have been upped a few notches during the time between the PS1 release and the PC adaptation. The resolution options are most notably a lot higher, meaning we get the sort of crisp textures and level of detail that the PS1 simply could not achieve. It isn't especially great for a PC game of its time, but it does the job, and in terms of the bigger picture, allows PC gamers the chance to play one of the best games ever made.

This is a game everyone should play! Originally released for the Playstation back in 1998, it's now available on the PC. You are Solid Snake, sent on a mission to infiltrate a nuclear warhead base, and stop the detonation of a nuke. This is not the usual go in, beat em up or shoot em up. The less fighting that goes on the better. This game is all about stealth. You start of with nothing but a scope and a packet of cigarettes. Going through the game you are able to pick up a handgun, machine gun, cardboard box for hiding in, stinger missiles - used for shooting down helicopters, infra red lenses and so on. The story line to the game is excellent and really gives the game an extra added feel to it. All through the game you have to be silent, and creep past cameras, guards and lights, but every so often you have to battle a boss. It starts off easy with "Revolver Ocelot" just a plain one on one gun shoot out, but through the game it gets harder, shooting down the Hind D with stinger missiles, battling with 4 people in a lift who you cannot see because their wearing stealth suits and so on. You end up fighting Metal Gear itself, where it starts firing rockets at you. This is difficult and requires fast action! Then lastly you end up fighting your own brother Liquid Snake to end the game. This game will take you virtually all day to complete, which sounds like a short life, but once you complete it, depending on how you submitted to the torture in the middle of the game, you can end up with a stealth suit or a bandana. This allows you to do the game again with stealth, or if you have the bandana, unlimited ammo. This gives the game a longer life, but to be honest once you have completed it a couple of times you tend not to play it again because you know all what happens. Never the less it is still a game to buy and try out.

This game is the best and it's just as good as the Playstation Version. I Don't see why it's rated Mature, because it's not 'that' gory! Great game! Must buy if you don't have it! Lots of Action Packed Moments. The control’s are simple to learn, and you can customize them if you want to make them useable. The game can be sad at times, and can even make you angry! A variety of cool weapons include a a Machine Gun called a FA-MAS (my personal favorite), a SOCOM Pistol, and even a Portable Stinger Missle Launcher! Graphics are very great and remain almost the same as the PSX Game. The only real flaw is the pixellation in some areas, like in the air vents, is not very good. But they are still really good. There are many Great Voice Overs and the sound is very detailed.

Metal Gear Solid caused quite a stir when it came out on the playstation in 1998 magazines went crazy calling it the game of the year. and now the game that sold a million playstations is out on the pc so whats it like? to start off theres not much diffrence between the two versions except with the pc version you get all the vr missions and the ability to play in first person mode at will. if you remember you had to by an add on pack for the playstation version and the first person perspective had to be earned. you get 2 discs one with the main game on it the other with the vr missions on it so its up to you which you wanna play first. the loading interface is well done and allows you to install the game quickley once done you load up the game and onto the main game menu, again theres not much diffrence between this menu and the PSX menu. all the options are there you can customize your controls and watch the breifing video and read about past missions. but the diffrence with this version is that you can set your resolotion all the way up to 1640x so you can really improve the detail and it also gives you the option to run in software mode. when you actually start the game the graphic details are a lot sharper than the PSX graphics and as you expect the guards are really on song picking up every minute sound you make and going towards it so the need to keep silent and unseen is essentail to your survival. if you are caught then every guard in that sector will chase you and gun you down so you cant just run into a room with guns blazeing you really have to think and distract the guards (and avoid them) to stay alive. the bosses are the same and generally no diffrence between the PSX version. all the weapons are there ie - psg1 , socom , famas ece so theres plenty to keep you entertained and playing again and again excellent stuff!!!!!!!!!!.

Now I know that I'm going to upset a lot of people by saying this but MGS is not the best thing since sliced bread, yes you heard me I don't think it is the No.1 game of all time. I think that this game was good on the playstaion but that the graphics are a little outdated now, especially the cutscenes, and the controls take way to long to get used to, you have to stick at it for a long time to be able to move without accidentally jumping in front of a guard and shouting "Here I am, kill me now!". The complete lack of a decent aiming system means that unless the enemies are at exactly at right angles to you it takes a long time and a lot of damage to get anywhere. The bosses are little bit tame, I completed all of them first time and hardly losing any energy. The much hyped up Pyscho Mantis was way too easy, I got hit once!, that's all, and the ninja, beat the hell out of him in a minute. Then we come to the plot, a nuke launching robot? And all of the plot only gets revealed near the end of the game, what sort of game only allows you to find out why you are doing things until the end of the game? I know it is supposed to add suspense and whodunnit? to the game but you need some information to actually know you don't know something. Personally I think the VR missions are the thing that saves the game, there is so much to do, and you can play as the ninja. If you even attempt the game before looking through the manual and playing the VR missions you die instantly, but if you do you complete it in nanoseconds. There are lots of points where you have to refer to the manual and if, like me, you are disorganised then you have to find it before you can go on, and to really get the most out of the game you have to do the 1.4 GIG! install! but if you like this sort of birds eye view shooter then it is a good buy. Overall I'd say about 7/10

When MGS came out on the PlayStation, the hype surrounding it was amazing. The graphics were smoother than... something really smooth, and the storyline was amazing. I ensured myself that I would get a copy for the PSX. 2 and a half years later, I didn't have a copy. So when it came out on the PC, I rushed out and bought one immediately. I was amazed at the storyline, controls, weapons, AI and boss fights. But I cannot put enough stress on the fact that the game is too short. I finished it in a matter of days. However, the game itself plays brilliantly. The greatest bit is definetely the boss fight against the infamous Psycho Mantis. The AI is amazing as the boss responds to the way you move Solid Snake and the way you attack Mantis. The strategy is simple enough, but the fight itself is a memorable one. The rest of the game is simple enough, but very good fun. There is only one main side quest in the game (i.e. something that is optional) and that is to take pictures of all the ghosts in the game (50 in the game). The last boss is remotely difficult, but the game is very simple overall. The ending should not be missed, whether you like it or not! Making use of all possible things in the game prolongs the adictiveness for a few months more, and when you've completed the game you can move onto the VR missions. These are good fun, especially the "who done it?" type of missions, where you have to run an identity parade through three guards and drag the right one to the goal. It's all in good fun, but you should take into account that the game is not recommended for people under the age of 15. With amazing graphics, a good storyline and extra missions inluded, this game is definetely worth dishing out money on. Look out for MGS2 in the future...

Get this if you didn’t get it on the Playstation. It’s one of the best games ever made! It’s not just your usual adventure. You have to use stealth instead of just going for the kill. If a soldier sees you your done, you have to find a place to hide quick, but its not just soldiers you have to hide from, you have to avoid security cameras, mines and gun turrets. You can knock on walls to grab the soldier’s attention, as they can hear you, so the only weapon you can fire without the soldiers spotting you, is the Socam with the suppressor. It has a brilliant story line. Next generation forces commanded by unit Fox hound, have taken over a base on Shadow Mosis island, and they say they will launch a nuke if the white house doesn’t give into their demand. They’re demanding the remains of Big boss, the warrior of the century. You Solid Snake are to infiltrate the base and Rescue the Darpa Chief and the president of arm’s teck, both are being held hostage, then you have to find out if the terrorists can launch a nuke and stop them if they can. You have this codec device wear in the game you can call somebody to help you if you’re stuck, or if you just want to find out more of what’s going on. Fox hound have 6 members Revolver Ocolot, Sniper wolf, Psycho mantis, decoy octopus, Vulcan Raven and finally Liquid snake who looks like you Solid Snake. The game is more like films as the cut scenes are very good and you’re probably watch more than you play. The PC version comes with VR training missions and you can also play the game in first person mode. This game did brilliant on the Playstation and I don’t see why it will do badly on the PC, as this game is one of the best ever made. All we need to wait for now is Metal gear solid 2, which look’s excellent.

Probably the best game out on the playstation finally comes out on the P.C. It is not just a plystation replica but also includes extra features, such as VR Missions included within the pack and also you can play it all in first-person mode. This is a brilliant game where instead of using brut force to win, you use stealth instead. The idea is to creep around, not getting spotted by guards and inflitarate the base. You can use a variety of weapons to win. This is a brillant game to have with lots of things to do.
