Mech Warrior 3 (PC):
... loved the other MechWarrior games; you control a giant robot and go around destroying stuff ad infinitum; what more else could you want? MW3 may be a flawed game, but it s also very fun and works well as a standalone effort that will please more discerning casual gamers and hardcore fans of the series alike. Zoo Tycoon (PC) ... a huge fan of the Sim genre, I absolutely had to pick this game up, and what a delight it is! It might follow the well worn formula of the genre, but if it isn t broke, why bother fixing it? This game has you attempting to build the perfect zoo for a rather large supply of animals. The trick is that each animal has its own set of demands, requiring you to employ a meticulous level of care with making that each animal has the food and environmental conditions that they prefer. An indication that all is well is that the tourists are happily snapping away at the animals without being scared away by them. Also, you have to set up the merchandising stores, to milk the cute ... Dungeon Siege (PC) ... Siege is the perfect example of a game that is all style and no substance; it was hugely hyped before its release but sadly managed to disappoint through a depressing lack of depth. It s not hard to please fans of the fantasy genre but this one fails spectacularly through its hugely clunky gameplay that the makers have tried to mask with some lush visuals. And indeed, what stellar visuals they are. As much as I loathe the gameplay, I can t knock the graphics here; they are very good for their time, and still hold up fairly well. Flight Simulator 98 (PC) ... should probably preface my review by saying that I got this game free with a PC many, many years ago, and had no intention ever of buying it. However, it did allure me by what my 10-year old self viewed as a rather ridiculous concept for a game, so one day, I popped it in my computer and gave it a whirl. Needless to say, while I didn t really have much of a clue what I was doing, I spent hours on that game, largely crashing the plane into buildings and generally being impressed that they had managed to make the game quite fun through its technical marvel and impressive faithfulness to trying to recreate the flying experience.
