I don’t know about you, but I feel that there just isn’t enough freedom in today’s games. I mean even RPGs are becoming far too linear. So, when a game such as Midtown Madness arrives on my desk, it’s a breath of fresh air. "But wait" I hear you cry. "Isn’t Midtown a racing game? Isn’t that the very image of limitation?" Well, Microsoft have broken the mould with this little gem. The game is set in the hustling, bustling city of Chicago. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really have a great deal of character. While there are plenty of recognizable landmarks, such as the Sears Tower and Wrigley Field, it ... Read the complete review

Midtown Madness is a superb racing game released in 1999 that inspired two great sequels, but sadly hasn't seen another entry in over 6 years now, sadly. It is one of the first games to offer a free-roaming city, whereas other games offered the pretension of it, but in fact it was a world that's sneakily restricted in some ways. Here, however, the programmers have executed a hugely impressively feat of a living, breathing world with lots of traffic and little nuances that other games could only dream of. The game doesn't have a premise, it's merely about racing until your heart's content through four different modes - Blitz (where the player has to race a ... Read the complete review

I first got Midtown Madness as a demo which of course has its limits. You could only get certain cars and were restricted to a certain area of Chicago. Its great that you can drive around like a maniac smashing into cars or having police chases. I loved this so much that I went out and bought it and I think that it is the best driving game ever. With the full version you get to drive day and night in all types of weather. You have to race and win to get more cars available to you which is great but I think that people who aren't that good will get really annoyed. I love this game a lot and what I have found is that if you drive really fast along a straight stretch of ... Read the complete review

How can Bill gates and his chums disregard the fans of this great game. I bought Midtown Madness on the great reviews it got and the incredible screenshots I saw and I wasn't dissapointed. It really is a fun, exciting game and well worth the money. When I saw the box saying "Chicago Edition" I expected that Microsoft would be bringing out an add on pack with other cities and cars to enjoy. But no, instead they produce Midtown Madness 2, a different game that you have to fork out full price for again. Why couldn't they just have brought out an expansion pack like they did with Age Of Empires? I was extremely dissapointed when I found ... Read the complete review

Midtown Madness, from the day I bougt it, has stayed firmly at the top of my ever increasing games pile. From the second you see the City of Chicago in all it's glory it is the open road from then. This game is impossible to get bored of. Once the cars included in the game get boring, simply download more from the internet! The graphics are amazing, a lot better than many other games. Some aspects could be improved upon, such as buliding graphics, and the artificial intelligence of other drivers, but don't let that put you off. This is far too good a game to miss out on. If you haven't played it, then why not? Get it, play it, love it. ... Read the complete review
