Guild Wars: Nightfall (PC)
by BenC7
Guild Wars: Nightfall is the 2nd expansion pack of the trilogy. Having said that, you don't require either of the previous 2 games to play this one, it works as a stand-alone version.
This game is played online, though no subscription fees are required!
Nightfall introduces a further 2 professions to the ... game:
Dervish: A scythe wielding frontliner who slashes down his enemies with ease. Use the power of Mysticism to transform into powerful 'avatars' or if you prefer, use your skills to instead have huge damage boosts to your attacks.
Paragon: The leader of the team. Use shouts and chants to guide your team to victory - the Paragon is both able to heal the entire party and boost their damage, all with ease. Wielding a spear, the paragon operates from the middle of the battlefield.
You start with nothing (as ever, in Guild Wars) aside from a few basic items and skills. Fight your way through the storyline to gain experience, loot and skills.
You can equip 8 skills at once, these you purchase at a skill trader. You may also capture elite skills from bosses - the most powerful skills of all.
If you haven't played Guild Wars before, start at the beginning with Prophecies. If you have played the series before however, buy Nightfall! You won't regret it.
The storyline is as gripping as ever, fight your way into the Torment Realm, where you will try to strike down old enemies. Meet friends along the way and take them with you!
Nightfall introduces the heroes feature. These are computer controlled players (like the henchmen) but you can adjust their skills!
As ever with Guild Wars, the scenery and accompanying music are beautiful. This game may be old, but it's graphics are certainly up there - even with todays game.
Buy Nightfall, you won't be disappointed! Read the complete review |

Guild Wars: Factions (PC)
by BenC7
Guild Wars: Factions - the first expansion pack of the series.
Expansion pack probably isn't the right word - you don't need the first game (Prophecies) to be able to play this one. It works as a stand-alone package.
Factions introduces 2 new professions to the game:
Assassin:
Dual blade wielding ... 'ninja' type character. Shadowstep to your enemies and strike them down in a matter of seconds. A quick, slippery character who is able to get in and out of a tricky situation in a flash.
Ritualist:
Control the spirit realm - summon spirits to be your aid. The Ritualists thrives on spirit summoning, a wall of blue 'floating' type characters who will attack your enemies with various types of skills. Also a good healer!
You start out with nothing - just a character and basic armour, aswell as a few skills and basic weapons. Build your collection up by beating down enemies and collecting their loot. From here you will engage in missions (with friends or computer controlled players - your choice!).
Chose from a vast selection of skills (unfortunately, you can only use 8 at a time!). Adjust your attributes to suit your game style (but don't worry, you can change your attribute levels whenever you like, you aren't stuck with your original decision!)
Factions is the shortest of the Guild Wars trilogy, but again the graphics and gameplay are immense. Although this game is old - do not underestimate it.
The beauty of both the soundtrack and scenery in this game are certainly not that of the Prophecies series, but they're still both enjoyable to view and listen too.
Travel through the lands of Cantha, chasing down the great Shiro. You'll find friends and enemies on the way - don't expect it to be easy!
A must buy. Read the complete review |

Guild Wars Prophecies (PC)
by BenC7
Guild wars is a fantastic series. If you're looking for a cheap MMORPG and can't afford to pay out subscription fees each month, then look no further.
NOTE: THIS GAME REQUIRES AN INTERNET CONNECTION, NO SUBSCRIPTION FEES APPLY.
Start here, the first game of the series - Guild Wars: Prophecies.
You start ... by creating your character, you chose one of 6 professions:
Warrior:
Axe/Sword/Hammer wielding front-liner, you be hitting your enemies hard whilst also protecting your team. With a heavy armor level, warriors are able to take hard hits; but they can also deal them out.
Ranger:
Bow wielding back-liner; choose your bow from one of many (different bow types have different shot ranges/arc types/damage bonus modifiers). Rangers are the only class which can charm animals, so you're able to take a pet companion with you (there are many types of animal to chose from!).
Necromancer:
Lord of the dead, curse your enemies with proactive or reactive hexes. Raise minions from the dead. In my opinion, the best profession of the lot. Versatile and has one of the highest DPS' of any class.
Elementalist:
Control the elements, chose fire, water, earth or air and blast down your enemies with force. Also able to 'tank' elementalists are also versatile (being able to be the most efficient healer in the game (See Ether Renewal healing) is also another bonus).
Monk:
The healer and protector of the team. Become a monk and master the art of healing. You can also deal damage - so don't worry about having to heal all the time!
Mesmer:
One of the least popular professions, but arguably one of the most useful. Use illusion and inspiration magic to hex your enemies and zap them down.
What makes Guild Wars so unique is it's "private zones" system. Towns and outposts are shared (i.e you can see other people who are also playing.) from here, you can team up with other players or take henchmen (computer controlled players) into the wilderness and explore.
You learn and buy skills, of which you can equip up to 8 at once. You capture elite skills off of bosses through the game - these are the best type! Save loot from enemies to buy armor and weapons, you may also come across some rare items on your travels and make a bundle!
The storyline is gripping, explore the shiverpeaks, Kryta, The Jungle, desert and fire islands on your mission to strike down the source of evil in the land of Tyria (where Prophecies is set).
The graphics are incredible and the soundtrack is also beautiful.
The game is suited to both the solo player and the team player, so fill your inventory with treasures, explore the lands... and fall in love with the series that is Guild Wars. Read the complete review |
