Advantages: Simple, easy, great graphics, plug-and-play steering wheel.

Disadvantages: Don't expect to find anyone online 5 years later

This is the peak of the NFS franchise, when the graphics got amazing, the selection of cars was fantastic and the gameplay modes were truly addictive. In short, the purpose of the game is to drive around looking good and aiming to get a better car, there are 3 types of races that are all straight forward and easy to master. No worrying about traction control, center of gravity, wheel weight distribution or other ridiculous overcomplications that come with some racing games - this is straight up arcade racer with pretty girls stood at the edge of the finish line ready to cheer you on. Some people think that underground is too easy, the end result was that they made all future NFS ridiculously hard. They added cops that could track you down wherever you were and instead of earning cash toward your next car you spent 45 minutes just trying to lose the cops. They also added the elimination game mode (if youre not first every lap you lose). They also seperated it so that cars only race with cars from the same continent i.e. No more muscle car vs. mercedes.

I loved this game so much I went out and bought a steering wheel controller with pedals which worked without any tweaking (as opposed to the 1 hour of tweaking with the latest NFS).

This is just straight unadulterated fun, get the car you can't afford in real life, insert a turbo kit that would probably be illegal in your country and drive like you want your license taken away :)

Summary: Straight uncomplicated fun with graphics that stand the test of time
