Me and my mate tried looking for a co-op survival horror game, after much searching on the internet we found this game on many peoples wishlists and quite highly rated.
Once started we could understand why, my mate mentioned how Silent Hill like it was, having never played it I wasn't sure if that was good (having heard lots of good stuff about SH).
We only bought it for the co-op aspect and am glad we did, the game is brilliant, especially since there is a puzzle aspect as well, unlike the new resident evil 5 you can shoot and move at the same time and there are numerous weapons to choose from.
One good aspect I liked was the different characters for different things, be it intuition, speed, initiative etc.
Much scarier than Resident Evil 5 which we bought on the back of this game, the graphics in cut scenes are better than I thought and the gameplay is very good for what it is in my opinion.
The only gripe is sometimes with the camera angles, rather than split screen it's one screen with both players on, meaning people can get lost, easily recitified with the ability to change who the camera is on though. It would be better if the game wouldn't allow you to go off screen with the other player...although numerous times it saved us as one player ran for the door repeatdly tapping the action button looking for the door off screen as I was being eaten.
Much better game than I thought and not real gripes about the same other than the ending maybe, thought the storyline was good, the ending was poor.
Gaining a new love for horror movies and finally digging out my playstation 2 i thought obscure would be the perfect game to start up my once dead playstation addiction.
Hearing its two player was awesome.
I got my best friend round and we'd play Obscure together alot. Its actually a really great game to play with a friend, especially a screamish friend.
The tense music really gets you excited and a great thing that you arent suppose to do but you can is if you get the bat you can actually hit each other which we'd do occasionally whilst we figured out where to find the next clue.
If you like games that make you think then you'll love this. If you like a bit of a scare you'll love this, those zombies always make me jump. If you like creepy music you'll love this.
And if you like the whole cliche highschool horror movies then this is by far the best game for you.
Combination of thinking and getting rid of monsters, real good for film fans cus theres a few bits where it stops to tell the story.
I have to say i still havent got round to finishing it but I got to a part where you go up a lift to fight this crazy monster that looks like a person after a reverse liposuction who has maggots sprouting out her body.
Me and my friend kept dying which when you're a bit crap at videogames starts to make the game a bit tedious.
It didnt help that we kept screaming, we even muted the music and put on some fall out boy because we're that cool.
But after remembering playing this game i really want to get back into it.
Just play it, definitely one to try.
Obscure was a title i'd never heard of when a friend recommended it, and i'm glad he did. As a fan of Resident Evil and Silent Hill I was intrigued to see how this game panned out. So what makes this different from the above games? Well the fact that you can play as a Co-op in this Survival Horror game, which was pretty unique. The gameplay is decent and follows the format that most of these games do. The graphics aren't too shabby either. Sound is ok, the music and effects are nice but the speech is poorly acted. Not on Resident Evil 1s level of poor though! The game produces a very creepy atmosphere but it doesn't reach the poo your pants scary that R.E and Silent Hill do. Unfortunatley the storyline isn't top notch. It's a little disappointing in fact however it begins well enough in a creepy high school, and there are plenty of bad guys to batter through whilst you play. Nice weapons too. I liked the game and would say i'd recommend for others to play.
