I've always been a fan of the strategy/role playing type games where you carry out a number of small tasks to reach your goal. I was a big fan of Diner Dash when I was a bit younger and Cake Mania etc so when I saw this available on the Blackberry App World I decided to download it for my playbook. The game cost me £2 for the playbook but since downloading this I have learned that it can be played online for free however you cannot save your progress which for me, is an essential part of a game because after half an hour or so I begin to get blurred vision etc.
The game is produced by Flipline Studios and since looking on their site I have now learned that 'Papa's Burgeria' is one title in a series of 'Papa's' where you run a variety of restaurants/takeaways including a takeaway pizza shop, pancake shop, tacos etc.
The game has a relatively simple concept where you supply various customers with the burgers they ask for. Although it is a burger takeaway where you would normally serve drinks, sides etc here you are simply doing the burgers.
To start you click on the customer to take their order, go to the grill station and cook the burger then go to the build station where you put the burger in the bun along with any sauces, salad etc. You then take the burger back to the customer where they will give you a score for the service at the order station, the grill station and the build quality. They can then give you a tip depending on their opinion and these all go in the tip jar where you can spend them at the end of the level in the upgrade shop if you wish to.
The first levels start off fairly slowly with 2 or 3 customers with just one customer at a time and all wanting relatively simple burgers - all medium cooked etc. As the levels go on this increases in difficulty and by around level 10 you are having ten customers daily all wanting different things and queueing to be served.
The upgrade shop was scarcely stocked compared to what I was expecting! I was expecting to be able to buy additional grills, maybe even hire additional staff but the majority of things available are things to improve the visitors waiting times eg. posters, jukebox etc.
The game is fast paced and is relatively easy. You reach different grades depending on performance but you dont necessarily have to meet the targets every day in order to move on so in that respect it is quite an easy game, for example I think I am at grade 26 and I am in my 30 something day. You get new customers most days but this is just about the only change I have encountered so far, I was expecting seasons like Cake Mania or maybe the introduction of additional lines eg. drinks when I had reached a particular grade. Due to the fact that not much is introduced throughout the game makes it very repetitive and I am wondering if I am ever going to get any new tasks or whether I am close to completing the game etc.
The graphics are good and there are no blips. It is a fun looking game with fun animations and I cannot fault the graphics really. The special effects are standard - theres nothing special but what is included is done to a high standard eg. steam comes from the burgers etc.
I do enjoy this game and will continue to play it but personally I would like something more whether it be the introduction of targets other than going up the ranks or being in a position to offer different products. I was also expecting a veggie burger to pop up at some point but it hasnt yet. I feel that since being at about rank 5 not much new has happened and the game would really benefit from some additional thought.
I do think that the game is worth the £2 I have paid which is of course even better if you play online for free! I am impressed and happy with the game and I have looked on the appworld to see if there are any more available to download from the series but sadly at this time there are not but I will definitely keep my eye on it.
Overall this is a fun and fast paced strategy game that can be played by all the family, it can be picked up and put down with ease and it is interesting however there is a lack of development as you progress throughout the game in my opinion. It would be fun to play online in competition with other players too.
