You are all going to laugh when you read this because this is such an ancient game (tee hee) that it is one of those you can pick up in Games Workshop on offer at three for £5. But I got it out again the other night, having played it and playing it and played it when it first came out, because I had an overwhelming urge to play it again. Although the graphics have been surpassed the game play is such that I still really enjoyed it and though it was worth reviewing as it is hard to know with cheap old games if you will get value for money. So I am here to tell you it's great! Now, resisting the urge to make a million puns about Tutankhamun etc., ... Read the complete review

Pharoah is not to me, a typical game. For those games, I end up putting them to one side until there's 2 inches of dust on the box, but for Pharoah it's a completely different story. The mission is to complete the levels, to build up Egypt into a world city and to finally become Pharoah yourself. The numerous levels take your 'Family' through many stages in the development of a country which has a huge variety of industry and commerce, and must satisfy the increasing demands of citizens becoming more and more accustomed to the luxury of goods, entertainment and scholarly activities. The levels begin easily, to build shanty towns and harvest ... Read the complete review

I am a Civilization III fan, and lay the game all the time! However, occasionally I like to play City building Sims - having plaed a great variety of them I finally decided to buy Pharoah when it went on the discount shelf. Before you rush out and buy it because of the theme I should point out that if you don't like City Building games then you want like this regardless of the Egyptian connection! I have always been and always will be a big fan of simulation games. Recently I have bought and played Civilization III and Simcity 3000. Now these two are games that go back hundreds of years (OK so they go back to the early 80s) and thus they haven’t ... Read the complete review

Admittedly, city building sims are not my favourite genre of game - although I am a huge fan of God games such as Age of Empires and Empire Earth. But when promised the greatest civilisation of all time being mine to command, the megalomaniac in me was intrigued enough to part with my hard earned pennies and buy a copy of Pharaoh. Build a kingdom; rule the Nile; live forever. How could I resist? WHAT IS THE GAME ABOUT? Far be it from me to state the obvious, but Pharaoh is a city building game set in ancient Egypt. It has all the usual features you would expect of such games - provide housing for immigrants to move into, supply goods and services for ... Read the complete review

This is a hugely enjoyable game from the makers of Caeser III. You must take control of, and govern, a number of ancient Egyptian villages, towns and cities with the aim of getting your dynasty on to the throne. The only way to progress is by succeeding in completing the objectives for each level and in the process the game leads you through the various periods of ancient Egyptian civilisation. To begin you choose or create a name, you can play a variety of scenarios but at first I would recommend playing as a dynasty because the levels gently introduce you to the game concepts and controls. Life in ancient Egypt was based around the life giving Nile ... Read the complete review
