Advantages: Gameplay, aesthetics, historical accuracy
Disadvantages: Sometimes slow
Sometimes awkward, but beautiful and educational, this game is ideal for adults and kids of senior school age. Cryo Interactive have recreated Pompei, so accurately that it’s eerie as you wander about its streets. Your sweetheart, Sophia is lost in time and you have to travel back to save her 3 times (I presume there will be 2 sequels…) Alchemists, slaves, soothesayers…you meet all the characters around the town. Although not the speediest of games, the game strikes the fine line between being fiendishly difficult and providing enough of a challenge. Working alongside the game is the ‘amulet’ which you can click on at any time to access a contextual database of information about life in Pompeii during its heyday. More interaction between characters would have been desirable, but this is more than compensated for by the ‘grand scale’ of the puzzles making you use the full extent of the environment. The ‘cryo-engine’ environment is smooth but slow. I don't know if the ye old cockney is someone having a laugh or the only people that Cryo could get a hold of, but I hope it's the former! Overall – good plot (which you could actually follow) and if you like ‘Forbidden City’, then this is a must!
