Populous 3 the beginning is the latest in the series of god games under the title populous. If you can think back along time, almost 8 years you may remember populous 1. It was pronounced one of the best games ever, and was indeed the first real god game to grace the computer monitor. The master at the head of the Bullfrog team who produced Populous was a man called Peter Molyneux, a man renowned now for making great games. Well a sequal and 7 years later, Bullfrog have realeases the third populous. Now without Peter (who has gone on to form Lionhead studios, making Black and White), have a different team managed to come up with the goods to make this Populous ... Read the complete review

"Populous: the beginning" published by the brilliant games company "Bullfrog" was and still is an excellent game. But why then did it not even reach the game charts when it came out, who knows. The fact is that the game as been on sale now so long that it as become a budget title, generally meaning you can buy it for a fiver. When I bought this game just as it was released about 3 or 4 years ago it cost me £35 and I felt that the game was worth every penny. NOW ITS ONLY A FIVER! ABOUT THE GAME This game is a real time strategy (RTS) game with some amazing 3D landscapes. When I first bought the game my PC ... Read the complete review

Bullfrog have made many other games in the past and almost all of them have been hits. Theme hospital, theme park and theme park 3D are just some of the titles that bullfrog have made. However bullfrog have come up with the new game called populous the beginning. Populous is a 3D resource management strategy game where you build a village train up Warriors and try to defeat an enemy tribe. Populous is set in a special dimension where you are a shamen (a female witch who has magical powers) who must defeat other tribes to gain total victory. Populous uses a unique 3D landscape system which enables you to be up to zoom in and out spin around 360 degrees and ... Read the complete review

For those who don't remember the original games, some background is needed. Populous was the very first God Game, while Populous II is still close to being the best. What made both of them so good was the they were huge, in effect infinate in size, with massive campaigns - Populous II had several thousand levels in the main game, and that how you did in a level was reflected in your abilities. The depth of play was amazing, and they deserve their place as all time classics. In contrast, Populous the Beginning is a remarkably thin game. The thousands of levels have become barely more than dozen, and although level by level you have access to more spells, ... Read the complete review

This was the first game I bought when I acquired a PC and it's still one of my favourites. Not that I was biased, but having worn out two mice on my Amiga many moons ago on an earlier incarnation of the game, I was really hoping this wouldn't be too different. I wasn't disappointed. Firstly it was really easy to get into - I don't like games where you have to learn a degree's-worth of controls and screens to be able to begin to play. And then it was just totally, absolutely and utterly addictive. You build like crazy, you attack some baddies and generally get to be god. Some of the screens are a tad annoying, but cheats are fairly readily available if ... Read the complete review
