Quake III Arena is not just the definitive multi-player first person perspective game, but simply the greatest multi-player game across any genre and any format. It is supremely balanced, immense fun, highly addictive, and simply towers above the opposition. The previous two Quake games were single player games first, multi-player games second. But the growth of the internet and spread of online gaming has increased the popularity of multi-player games and caused game players to ask for more from single player games than the original Quake games provided. The simple 'find-keys, open-doors, shoot-monsters' logic of the earlier Quake games now stands in the shadow of ... Read the complete review

I have been recently introduce to dooyoo by a friend, he told em all about it and I had to agree that writing top quality reviews for games was right up my street, although you may not think that by the end of this! This is my first oppinion. Quake 3 Arena is in my own few the most fast paced online shoot em up experience there is. Not only this but there are numerous add-ons MODS and maps. But one thing you should be warned about is that if violence is frowned upon in the household is that this game may not be for you. Also a bonus of this game is that I have read on forums there will hopefully be an update to the game making it even faster for us 56K Modem ... Read the complete review

One more time, one more match, 30 more frags – just one more victory and I’ll be ready to call it a night. Yeah, right. I’ve been here before…many times…long ago. A hell of a lot of you will know what to do when you play Quake III Arena for the first time. You’ll know how the controls work, how to operate each weapon, when to run for health, and when to rush into a crowd of competitors with guns blazing. Some of you will even be highly skilled players in your very first Quake III Arena Deathmatch. This is because very little has changed in terms of gameplay here. This is Quake. Rocket launchers, machine guns, rail guns, ... Read the complete review

Most of the reviews on Q3 so far have shown that it's a great game, especially online, and offers a pure adrenaline rush, and I wouldn't dispute that. However to those who think that the game offers nothing new, you should check out some of the mods that are available for adding to the basic game, such as Rocket Arena & Classic Quake Arena. These offer good variations on the basic game, and use the excellent engine to good effect, (the Classic mod even adds some colour to the original !). ID are also about to release a further expansion pack to the game, which will increase the number of skins, bots, maps, and improve on the team-play options. ... Read the complete review

Writing a review of this is going to be tough. You see, about a year ago when it was announced that Quake 3 Arena would definately be coming out, my expectations were emense. However, one small thing changed those expectations - Unreal Tounament. Both games are similar in that an online deathmatch is simulated with computer controlled 'bots' whom you fight against. However, as opposed to UT's various modes such as assault, domination etc, Q3 has just a bland tournament system, some basic ctf maps and a 'skirmish mode' which lets you play any map. What is more, UT has much more colourful graphics and more involved gameplay. Quake 3 does however have an ... Read the complete review
