I'm amazed to see that I am only the second person to write and opinion on this game. When it was originally released several years ago, it was hailed as the best game ever; something which is now becoming an increasingly common claim with game releases. The thing is with Quake though is that it really is the best game ever. I'm sure that the majority of Dooyooers will have heard of it, or at least its sequels. As far as its sequels go, Quake II was OK but not an improvement and Quake III was a bit of a flop really. During this opinion, I will try and talk you through pretty much all of the aspects of the game, so it may be a bit long-winded. System ... Read the complete review

The release of Quake was hailed as a watershed moment in gaming back at the time in 1996, but in retrospect this claim has proved to be both true and untrue in equal measures. Quake's engine was the first to offer a full, 'true' 3D gaming, allowing players to look in 360 degrees, allowing for platforms to exist on top on one another, and featuring fully 3D enemies as opposed to the simple 2D sprites that had previously been the norm. Unfortunately, ID appear to have got so caught up in creating a revolutionary engine that they allowed actually making a good, fun game to slip way down the list of priorities. Quake's graphics were hugely impressive at ... Read the complete review

Quake. It's a classic. It might be old but its still more than playable. It was one of the very 1st First Person Shooters & set a lot of standards that many companies followed & tried to improve upon. Your basic mission is to stop the force of Shub-Niggrath & his underworld cohortts. Kill em, avoid em, whatever you choose to do just make sure you get through the series of 4 realms, claiming the rune in each realm to open the final portal to allow you to battle with the big guy himself. You will battle rottweilers, Ogres, Shamblers, Fiends & many more creatures that are intent on kicking the holy crap out of you to stop you ... Read the complete review

The original Quake may have been superseded by it's two sequels, but thanks to a freely available graphics update it got a new lease of life (in my books anyway). I'd never played it and had no intention to until my friend introduced me to it in the form of GLQuake. It's a little strange that I never played it first time around, being the classic that it was, but for some reason I skipped from Doom 2 to Unreal Tournament. Anyway, as the saying goes, better late than never. Quake had a similar effect on the games playing world as Doom did. After Doom it was probably the biggest thing in PC gaming, and at the time was very popular. Of course ... Read the complete review

I am shocked to find that I am the first person to write a review of this game since it was a trend setting game, the king of 1st person shooters in my opinion. I have played this games for about 4 years now and I still rather a good game of Quake than half-life, unreal, Quake III. I was the Northern Ireland champion at quake deathmatch and no. 2 in all of Ireland. I've also played in top english clans and gaming leagues, so I do have quite a considerable knowledge of the game and this may help you to trust my opinion. The games story is of a guy who seems to have got lost and ends up in a world of big nasty demons who don't really like him very ... Read the complete review
