Advantages: Great game, free, entertaining
Disadvantages: None except adverts
A few weeks ago I was sitting in my room, when a feeling of boredom overcame me. I didn't really fancy entertaining myself with something that I already had, so I had a look around the internet for some free games to play. I did find a couple of games which were certainly playable, but not fantastic, that is of course until I stumbled upon Ranch Rush. I first played this as a free trial download from some site or another, but this only let me play for one hour. After scouring the internet for somewhere that I could find the full unlimited version for a free download (I was unwilling to pay for something which I knew must be free somewhere), I finally found iWin.com, where you can download many online games for free, as long as you don't mind playing them with adverts. I was delighted, and soon was playing this great game for free again.
Ranch Rush is a downloadable game, which is fairly simple in its gameplay and style. It is a time management game, ie you have a set amount of time to achieve a set number of goals in order to advance to the next level. In this game, you play a girl whose job it is to run a ranch and fill customer's orders before the time runs out. Each level represents one customer, and the orders you have to fill get larger as you progress through the game. Filling the order involves growing and collecting crops such as corn and tomatoes, as well as making other products with these crops such as jam and tomato ketchup, and collecting produce from animals.
This game may sound simple and not that exciting to many of you, but I have to admit that I love it. I like the mild stress of trying to make an order in time and watching the clock tick the seconds away, as well as deciding which items on the order to prioritise in order to get it done in time. There are many similar games out there, such as Diner Dash, which I also enjoy, but I actually much prefer Ranch Rush. There's something about it that I really love and which makes it addictive, and the fact that it is free really helps!
There are two modes on this game: casual and expert (unlockable by doing casual mode), so once you've completed the easy mode you can have a go on the harder ones. You receive trophies for completing certain tasks in the levels, which adds to the longevity of the game a bit, as when you've got bored of simply working through the levels you can have a go at earning yourself some trophies.
The graphics in Ranch Rush aren't bad, and are standard for internet download games of this type. The whole game is played as a birds' eye view of the ranch, and there isn't much which is impressive in the way of graphics, though everything looks bright and attractive, and for a free game I can't really complain about how it looks.
In conclusion, this is a game that I really enjoy and keep going back to. It's perfect for entertainment for an hour or so, though obviously you can play it for less time or for longer if you wish. If you're interested in giving this a go, by searching for it on a search engine you will find several free online plays of it or sample downloads, but unless you want to pay for a full version, I would recommend downloading it for free from iwin.com. The only annoying thing about this version is the fact that you will get a 20 second advert popping up every 5-10 minutes, but I actually find that it makes a good little break in the game and gives me a chance to grab some water or something, and would consider it a good thing rather than an annoyance. In short, this is a great game, and since it's free you've got nowt to lose by trying it.
Summary: A great free online game.
