Sure the graphics in Red Faction 2 are much superior than that of Red Faction 1, and the story mode is a lot longer and more action packed, but without the explosive crazyness that RF1 had, it just wasn't as fun. After Playing Red Faction 1 (the original) I was highly disappointed with the demolition aspect, which was to me the best aspect of the game. Within the first game you were able to blow down any/every wall or object you wanted, you could literally blast yourself out of the map, yet now you are only able to blow down the few selectable walls, Not very adventurous. Sure the graphics in Red Faction 2 are much superior than that of Red Faction 1, and the story mode is a lot longer and more action packed, but without the explosive crazyness that RF1 had, it just wasn't as fun.
