Advantages: good atmosphere, puzzles, weapons, monsters

Disadvantages: not long enough

The first in a series of dark, gory and intensely exciting games.

Resident Evil allows you to play the games using one of two characters: Chris or Jill.

Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses. Varying from different weapons you can pickup through the game and different puzzles you must complete.

The game starts in a mansion, a mansion that is full of zombies and monsters because of a deadline virus called the T-Virus. You must guide your character through the mansion and beyond to find the origin of the virus and try to destroy everything to do with it.

The game plays like no other game I have ever played before. The camera angles and haunting music mixed with sound FX create an eerie atmosphere throughout with some guaranteed scares that WILL make you jump (its best to turn the sound up when playing). Armed with a variety of weapons and ammo which is not unlimited you must blast your way through hoards of zombies and other fould creatures that basically want to eat and suck the life from your body.

You must solve puzzles ranging from easy to difficult, usually under pressure from a zombie crawling towards you.

The cut scenes in the game really keep you on your toes. Half the time you can't see your line of sight and instead must use the groans of zombies to map in your head where the monsters are.

Using a combination of different coloured herbs dotted around the game provides you with a way to cure your health and any poisonous attacks against you.

You can only save the game upon reaching special storage rooms or wherever you see an old typewriter.

You must strategically think about what items you can carry since you are limited.

This game is a frantic, puzzling, eerie masterpiece worth emptying your pockets for.

Summary: masterpiece in gaming
