Advantages: Action Packed

Disadvantages: Dying all the time

Resident Evil is a very action packed, tense & scary game; you are always wondering what’s around the corner or behind that door. Most of the time you hope there won’t be any of those zombies as you have run out of ammo. But your scared because you think something is about to make you jump, and things do.

This is the best Resident Evil and it’s also the hardest. This is the ultimate survival horror game; things play with your mind you sometimes you think, did that really happen when you spot something with the corner of your eye. The setting of the game is perfect, in a mansion that you find empty and silent.

The story line is very addictive; you are always wondering what will happen next. At the start you find out there have been mysterious deaths in Raccoon City and strange people walking around aimlessly. An elite police force called S.T.A.R.S (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) had to investigate this on the areas the strange people were seen; S.T.A.R.S Bravo team went out to investigate. You can choose between two characters: Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, they are both members of the S.T.A.R.S Alpha teem. Your job is to find the Bravo team as they are missing. When the Alpha team find the Helicopter nobody is there, dogs then chase you into a mysterious mansion and that’s where it all begins.

Once you are in the mansion you find many dead bodies, the first one you find is a member of the Bravo team. At the start you find this zombie in the mansion, which tries to bite you, and as you progress you find weapons, more monsters, surprises and more about why these monsters are here. Your goal is to find a way to escape from the mansion and stay alive.

The backgrounds of the game are 2D but the game is set in a 3D environment. The game is third person (you see your character). The characters and enemy’s are 3D but the backgrounds are just pictures, I think they look good but as they cant move,
the camera angles are limited. Sometimes Jill or Chris is facing around a corner and there would be a monster but you couldn’t see it because the angle only changes when the person goes out of the camera angles view. This means you could be attacked and you wouldn’t see the monster coming, this can make you jump though.

The controls can be a bit dodgy; you have to press one button on the controller to aim your weapon and another to fire the weapon. But it’s moving the character, which can be annoying, if you press up the character will move forward in the direction he/she is facing, I am now used to it but if you haven’t played this kind of game before it can be hard to control.

The monsters add to the tension considerably. It’s the sounds they make and the ways you can hear them but cant see them. When you go through a door you see short sequence where you see the door open, this is annoying at first but you get used to it and where as most people think it’s a major downside I think it makes the game tense at those points. The music also adds to the tension it’s very slow and creepy to make you scared and when things make you jump the music speeds up and your heart beets faster.

It’s not just shooting zombies, which makes the game good, it’s also the puzzles, which makes it good. Usually you need a key to open some doors and you usually get keys from puzzles. But the objects you can push are easy to spot as they are made up of polygons and they stand out to the backgrounds. But if you couldn’t spot them the game would take a lot harder.

There are many bad points though, the voice acting isn’t that great but the Body language is awful it’s like watching puppets, but the game is old so you can’t moan at Capcom. The loading times are annoying but you get used to them and the controls are a bit dodgy. Also the people don’t go with the backdrops b
ut I still think the graphics are excellent.

Despite the games downsides Resident Evil is still a very good game with a great storyline and it’s only the beginning in Resident evil’s 2 and 3 the zombies have got to the city. The story could go on forever and I’m sure I will get every Resident Evil and I urge you to do the same.
