Return To Castle Wolfenstein is a reboot/sequel to the original Wolfenstein 3D and was released nearly ten years after the original game. At the time of its release the game received virtually universal acclaim from critics but never sold that well compared to some other shooters. In my opinion this is a real shame as I can't think of many games that epitomise the genre like Return To Castle Wolfenstein does. It successfully builds upon the extremely solid foundations that games such as 'Half-Life' set down, and whilst it isn't as original or innovative as Half-Life was, it is nevertheless a very well made shooter and a high-quality gaming ... My review of 'Return To Castle Wolfenstein' (Game for the PC). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Introduction - Basic Training! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm not what you'd call an avid video game player; but ever since I bought my first 386 PC back 1943 (well it seems that long ago -lol!) I have been known to sneak off and play the odd PC game here and there... One of the very first and very best games I ever played on my old 386 was 'Wolfenstein 3D' (circa 1992), considering the limitations of the processing power back then (remember when having 32MB of RAM was actually cool?... ... There aren’t many things that I can put on a list of things I’ve accomplished this Easter. I read my book on chaos, I injured my knee riding my bike and as of last night I finished Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the sequel to what is a very historic game. Many people believe first person shooters (games played in a first person perspective that basically involves shooting) as a gaming genre began with games like Doom and Duke 3d, this isn’t the case. It was a game called wolfenstein 3d that started it all and after what is a very long time they decided to make a sequel of the game. This game had a lot of promise. ... Read the complete review

Its official my marriage is in trouble. Not because of any massive argument or any problems we are having, but because I just can't leave my computer alone. "Why can't you leave your computer alone mike!?" I hear you all cry! Well let me tell you. A few weeks ago I bought the much awaited Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This is a remake of what was perhaps the first game in this genre. (Here comes the history lesson) Back in the Olden days when the PC was nothing more than a glorified calculator, and having a PC at home was the domain of the rich or the geeky. An American company called ID Software plucked a new ... Read the complete review

After spending many an hour scurrying around the original Castle Wolfenstein in my 386 PC all those years ago, I've been waiting a long time for this sequel to come out and I'm pleased to say that it does not disappoint. The original game, Wolfenstein 3D, is singularly responsible for creating the whole First Person Shooter (FPS) genre for the PC. From this came Doom, Quake and all the other copy-cats like Half Life, Unreal and so on. Some of these games have extended and improved the genre, so Return to Castle Wolfenstein (RtCW) had a lot to live up to, and live up to it it certainly does. The game is set in the war-torn Europe of 1943. You ... Read the complete review
