Now i know strategy games are not everyone's cup of tea, as they require a great a deal of patience and wit, which not everyone is blessed with. However of all the strategy games i have ever played, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is bar far and away the most addictive PC game i have ever picked up. Even outdoing everyones favourite 'The Sims' series, for which i have pooped countless hours of my life down the toilet fiddling around with. What to talk about. Well first of all if you have ever picked up a similar title, i.e. any of the original 'Theme' series, including 'Theme Hospital' or 'Theme Park' then you know exactly what these types of games are all about. The thrills and spills and overall addictiveness does not eminate from the splattering of zombies, the buying of pointless funiture for your virtual family or from leaping from one platform to another. Instead the satisfaction from RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, just like all other strategy games, arrives from an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction after you have put a considerable amount of time into something. The basic aim of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is to take over a theme park, assuming the role of manger/developer/financer, basically one god-like role that oversees every day to day activity connected with the park. The plot of land may already be an established attraction with numerous rides, or alternatively a new development that needs building from the ground up. Each park carries its own objectives, normally to do with the amount of people that need to be in the park by a given date or not letting your overall popularity rating drop below a certain level. I know this premise might not sound like the most exhilirating gaming experience in the world, but believe me, anyone who has played anything remotely similar, such as SimCity or Age of Empires, will automatically identify with this game and the rewards it can offer. In general, completing a park can take anywhere from a couple of hours to well over ten, depending on the stipluations and the overall objective. But the satisfaction once you have completed a park, observing your thriving business, with thousands of paying customers wandering around your park, engaging in anything from simply buying popcorn to riding one of your many custom designed rides, really is incredibly fulfilling. Every customer has their own preferences and likes and dislikes, so it is especially important to construct a park that finds that unique balance between a thrill seekers paradise and a family friendly wonder land, if you are to almost certainly succeed. Of course it takes quite a few practice runs to get the hang of things. There is an awful lot to take in, and so many customisable options with regards to the direction in which you can take your park, that inevitably your first few projects will more than likely crash and burn before they even get off the ground. I myself prefer the challenges that remove the financial aspect and focus more upon your creative ability, for example requiring you to build ten Roller Coasters of a certain excitement level. These scenarios can be carried out at your own pace, without any kind of financial restraint, and truly allow your imagination to run wild. This is where i find RollerCoaster Tycoon to be its most endearing, the options available to you are just staggering, with well over 50 different types of roller coaster available for you to choose from. Once you have selected your prefered design, whether it be a modern suspended steel coaster or an old school wooden power house, you can customise it to your hearts content, altering and determining every single part of its design to meet your needs. If you want to build a 300ft tall monster, with 500 loops, and a top speed 0f 200mph, then you can by all means achieve this, everything is in your control. But do be warned, once you have finished each coaster design, it is then assessed during an initial test run by the computer, and three ratings are provided. These are; an Excitement Rating, which deems how fun your guests will find the attraction, an Intensity Rating, which assesses how likely your ride is to reduce your guests to wobbling piles of jelly, and finally a Nausea Rating, which determines how likely your guests are to throw up some of their lunch, enjoyed from one of many of your fast food outlets, all over poor unsuspecting guests far below. This is truly where some skill kicks in, as finding a balance between all three will determine just how successful your custom ride will become. Unsurprisingly anything that is likely to break a guests cheek bones with its sheer speed, isn't going to go down particularly well. However go too far in the other direction and build something that barely gets the pulse going and your customers certainly wont be queing up in their hundreds. Its all about finding a happy medium, designing something that has the best of both worlds. Do this and your onto a winner. Of course theme parks arent just composed of endless roller coasters, and this game offers an absolute plethora of other attractions to pad out your park with. Everything from Dodgems or a simple Helter Skelter, to complex log flumes, free fall white knuckle rides and scenic monorails. The game simply has everything a budding park designer could possibly want and its all their to be customised to your hearts content. A new addition to RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, something that wasn't present in the first installment, is the create a scenario option. Unhappy or unsatified with one of the many pre-programmed scenarios offered in the game, and now you can simply design your own instead. Choosing everything from the scenery to the general climate of your park. If you want your park to be in a tropical paradise surrounded by tall trees and blue lagoons as far as the eye can see, then you can create to your hearts content. Alternatively you may want a winter wonderland, complete with frozen lakes and snowmen. The options really are endless. All in all this is simply one of the most fun and addictive games i have ever had the fortune to play. Give it some time to get used to, allow yourself to become accustomed to its many features, and before long youll find yourself caught up in the excitment of it all. Simply fantastic stuff.
I will keep this short and sweet. If yo uare looking to buy this before you buy and upgrade to RCT3 I personally think it's worth it so the RCT3 isn't so overwhelming, but it's totally up to you. I really enjoyed this game. If was a little bit on the easy side, but i loves all the themed rides and stuff that this has the the first doesn't really. I found way more entertaining and addicting then the first one, but part three is even more so. I loved this game and am a devoted RCT fan.
I really like this game. Me and my friends always play it. It is a good game to play whether when you are bored or just want to create your own world in a virtual world. Plus, children of all ages can play with it because there is no violence. Girls like to pay Roller Coaster Tycoon just as much as boys. So, the game is kind of enjoyed by a wide range of people.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 is the next generation of rollercoaster games. There are fewer restrictions, more fun rides and stalls... As a bonus they have included the track designs from the world's top rollercoasters in Six Flags parks around the world. The possiblilites are endless and also they have included new design tools to create your worn themes and parks with your own restrictions, objectives and loan amounts!!! You can spend hours on this game!!! I would recommend this as a good rollercoaster designer game
************About this review************ I'm not writing a review on the Wacky Worlds expansion pack, but the game it self. There is a false image. ************Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, just another Tycoon game?************ Rollercoaster Tycoon is one of the most loved tycoon game. The first one was a real hit and brilliant, whats a amazing saying it's now in the bargain bins in many shops with a £5 price-tag. Never mind, at least you can buy Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 now. ************So what is Rollercoaster Tycoon 2?************ Rollercoaster Tycoon is a game where you design a theme park, consisting of many rides such as rollercoasters, log flumes, merry-go-rounds and observation towers and more. on intense rides your guests maybe sick, so get a janitor. also you can buy shops selling maps, food, drinks and soverneers. Remember like charge the correct amount for rides and shops, or you can charge for admission; or you may go bust! Again, you can just get a loan. ************Graphics?************ It has not fantastic graphics compred to game such as The Sims or Simcity 4, but the game itself is fantastic. It has the same graphics as the orginal. The game however is very detailed. ************Whats new?************ Well the graphics haven't changed, neither have the controls. Still you have many new rides and shops(like a Fried Rice Shop), and countless new landscapes. Also, you can create your own levels, with your selection of rides, which is really cool. Yes, I forget it has new levels to like the Six Flags Parks. ************RCT2 vs. Theme Park series************ Theme park has better graphics and is more comical, but RCT2 has better ride building facilities, is more serious, has more rides, a level creator and more shops. Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 easily wins. ************Summary************ For a Rollercoaster Tycoon lover, or a management str atergy player this is a must. ************Alternatives************ Microsoft Zoo Tycoon - 3/5 Theme Park - Haven't Played Theme Park World - 3/5 Theme Park Inc. -3.5/5
