Advantages: A great way to use your imagination to it's full extent

Disadvantages: A bit tricky building Roller Coasters

To begin with, you choose a scenario to play. There are plenty to choose from and each has a different aim to finish that level. i.e. get a park rating of at least 600 and have 250 guests by the end of October year 1 (a park year runs from March to October, after all, who wants to go to a theme park in the Winter!) To start of there are a few scenarios (Forest Frontiers, Dynamite Dunes and Leafy Lake to name a few) and you can unlock harder ones by completing the easier ones.
When you've chosen a scenario you have to build rides (obviously) there are several types of rides which I will name down the page. Each ride needs an entrance, exit and queuing areas.
Now with the types:
Transport: things like monorails and trains that take your guests from one side of your park to the other.
Gentle Rides: These include things like Helter Skelter and the Haunted House. These are gentle but won't thrill some guests.
Which brings us to Thrill Rides: these are things that will thrill guests such as a swinging ship or twists.
Water Rides: This is fairly obvious. They're rides with water like log flumes or water slides.
Roller Coasters: This is what gives the game it's name. You can either take a custom built 'coaster or get the fun of building one yourself. The problem is, this might be a bit tricky at first.
Shops: Self-explanatory. You can buy food & drink (in the pizza, burger, coffee and drink shops) and place toilets (quite important!) as well as information kiosks.

Your cash flow is important as well, as things cost money. If money is short then it's best to get a loan from the bank. However, the bank can be tight, and any demand over £30,000 they will refuse.
Guests resemble real-life too (although they don't look it) and have needs which you can tell by their faces. The needs are; hunger, thirst, nausea, boredom and tiredness. It is important to keep these up, or your park will fail. Because of this, place shops and toilets all over the park. And what's best is that you can see what the guests are thinking about your park.

You employ staff as well to tend your park. There are handymen (they do the handy stuff such as emptying litter, mowing grass and sweeping paths. The mechanics fix and inspect rides (after all not every ride is perfect.) and the security guards stop vandalism (i.e. knocking over bins and breaking benches in half. And finally there are entertainers, to entertain your guests.
Overall, Rollercoaster Tycoon is a brilliant, original game and I recommend this to all game fanatics.
