Sanitarium is an intense "who-dunnit" psychological adventure thriller, in which the player controls a man trying to escape from a mental asylum, despite being unsure of who he is, or how he came to be in this situation. In order to discover his true identity, and escape his fate, he must explore the darkest recesses of his mind. In Sanitarium you play a man swathed in bandages following a road accident which has left you battered and bruised and with almost complete memory loss. Your first task is the escape this horrible place and then to discover what happened, who you are etc. to basically piece together your life as your mind fights against its own demons and slowly feels as if it is itself unravelling. The game plays across 8 ‘chapters’, taking part in such areas as the aforementioned asylum where you begin, an adultless farming community, an island of freaks and a ummm beehive(dont ask) to name just some of them. Surrounded by babbling lunatics in some run-down asylum, your head swathed in bandages following a car crash that’s erased your memory, you struggle with your inner demons as you fight to keep a grip on reality and find out who you are and why you’ve been institutionalised. It doesn’t exactly sound like the recipe for ‘My Best Day Ever’, now does it?
