Settlers follows on in the footsteps of such greats as Populous and Command and Conquer as yet another game in the god game/real time strategy genre. Since 1987 when the venerable Populous was released for the Commodore Amiga I have loved this type of game, although having played so many of them I don't find them quite as addictive as they were all those years ago. Indeed Settlers (the original) is now 8 years old so my main concern when I parted with my hard earned cash and bought this title, was if there would be enough new features to really keep me interested for more than a few days. The settlers games have traditionally been blighted by the same two problems - over complexity and under achievement and at first glance, not much seems to have changed in this fourth edition. As always, the graphics are gorgeous; lush, well animated and obsorbing enough just to sit back and watch. We challenge anyone not to enjoy seeing their little baker come out of his hut, collect corn and wheat, place the dough in the oven and finally pull out a steaming hot loaf - it's like Windy Miller all over again!
