Had you have purchased Silver on its original release then you would probably have found yourself disappointed with the quality of the game for the price it was. On the other hand, if you hit the shops now you'll find the same title for around a tenner which can't be bad and is probably a more realistic pricing. It is not that silver is a 'budget' game as such but rather that it simply isn't 'that' good...but still somewhat enjoyable. Its a RPG rather in the vein of something like Diablo or Final Fantasy, but not one which seems particularly at home on the PC - rather it looks like it belongs on the Dreamcast or such like gaming console with ... 'Silver' was reasonably well received by the less trustworthy computer magazines, i.e. those liable to give out high marks regardless of game quality, when it first came out, but indifferently received elsewhere. Being a fan of RPGs, and having been reasonably impressed by a demo of the game, I was still interested in buying it. The game is now available as a budget release in the "Best of Infogrames" range for just over a tenner. 'Silver' is an RPG. You play David (oh, don't you love fantasy RPGs where characters have got normal Earth names?), a warrior forced to fight the evil Silver to rescue his wife, Jessica. Silver has ... When you first load up Silver you're greeted with a video sequence you'd be forgiven for skipping - it appears to be a video loop with no real purpose but after a while you're introduced to the game's history via a booming, dramatic voice. The wait isn't entirely worth it as the background story is over as quickly as it started but what's interesting to note is the "Press Start Button" prompt that appears throughout. Surely, an RPG's plot is the vital skeleton of the game and is a necessary thing to watch? And so the first of Silver's problems rears its head: plot, or rather its lack of depth. The emperor Silver has ... Read the complete review

Silver is an action RPG that came out nearly 10 years ago on the PC. By today's standards, you would think that Silver would be incredibly dated - I mean that's a long time ago, right? And most people will probably have never heard of it. Well, I mean, I'm not going to lie, the game is a bit dated, especially graphically. But there's something about it that has stood the test of time for me, in a way other games haven't. There were quite a few Action RPGs out around this time. Remember Revenant? Yes, that was rubbish (stop me if you disagree!) How about Nox? Actually, that was great multiplayer fun... anyway I digress. Silver is a japanese-style ... Read the complete review

This game was hailed to be Europes answer to Final Fantasy 7. People thought that European developers couldn't make a good RPG, well if you think this check this game out. Its truly great in everyway. It has camera angle like Final Fantasy (fixed, non rotational), it has backdrops that look as good as the ones in Final Fantasy and the characters look better than the ones in Final Fantasy, they have more detailed faces but they are similar to the cutesy small characters of Final Fantasy 7. The game tries to differ from Final Fantasy though, as the characters and the game looks similar the fighting and weapon system aren't similar at all. The fighting is ... Read the complete review
