Advantages: Lots of options to keep you going .
Disadvantages: graphics are a bit old
Sim city 2000 puts you in position of being town mayor (or more like God) watching a small village grow into a thriving metropolis. But that's if you're successful of course. The biggest problem is money; I usually run out of money by 50 years which stops me from extending my city.
At the beginning you must name your city then choose between easy, medium and hard. You start with £20,000 for easy, £10,000 for Medium and -£5,000 for hard. A city needs power so I will describe each type.
COAL: Coal plants will generate large amount of pollution. Citizens will eventually start complaining.
HYDROELECTRIC: Very clean and efficient but doesn't give much power.
OIL: Marginally cleaner than coal power.
GAS: Also cleaner than coal but very expensive.
NUCLEAR: Clean, efficient but very expensive risk of meltdown.
WIND: Very clean and reliable. Less cost effective than solar power.
SOLAR: Clean but expensive. Cloudy seasons leave your citizens shivering in without light.
MICROWAVE RECEIVE DISH: Launches a satellite to collect solar power then beam it down to Earth. Very clean and reliable but expensive.
I would suggest using coal power as it fairly cheap and reliable but every power plant will blow up after fifty years. In total there are eight power plants that are a lot more than just the two on Sim City classic that were nuclear and coal. There are residential areas that can be built for people to live. Commercial areas for people to shop and work. Industrial areas for factories. Of course if you don't build these then there is no way your city can grow!
~DISASTERS! ~
Expect the unexpected. Disasters can cost a lot if it ends up damaging your city and can cost lives but are great fun to watch. I have named all the possible disasters below.
FIRE
FLOOD
AIRCRASH
TORNADO
EARTHQUAKE
MONSTER
HURRICANE
RIOTERS
You can disable all the disasters so that they never happen but that wouldn't be much fun.
~SPEED~
PAUSE-PAUSE
TURTLE-SLOW
LLAMA-MEDIUM
CHEETAH-FAST
AFRICAN SWALLOW-ULTRA FAST
African swallow, which is the fastest setting, is so fast that a year is about equal to two seconds.
~REWARDS~
If your city gets over 2000 citizens then you get given your very own Mayors home.
~TRANSPORT~
People need to get around your city so building roads and railway will help. You can build underground roads or join roads on to a neighbouring city. Building an airport or a seaport will take time to develop but once it starts working then your people can travel in a much quicker way. However, there is a risk of a plane crash.
~EDUCATION~
Young people need to go to school or college so every city will need one built instantly. Museums and libraries are handy as well.
~SERVICES~
There is a lot of crime going around in the city and without a police station crime will get out of hand. A jail will help but are more expensive. The same is with fire and without a fire station, a lot of fire will go round. The same with a hospital but I think you get the idea.
~PARKS~
People like parks, so there is nothing wrong with placing a small park or a big park around your city. The other available options are a zoo, stadium (choose from various sports)and a marino
~BUDGET~
Everything costs; police, fire, health and welfare, education, transit and property all cost money. I usually lose money at the end of each year because of over spending.
~WATER~
Water can also power a city. Citizens will protest if there is a lack of water. First build a water pump or tower then connect water pipes so water can flow.
~POPULATION~
Population will grow if a city has all the things listed above but if it doesn't then people will leave and houses, buildings, shops etc. will be left abandoned
~GRAPHICS~
The graphics are O.K but look a bit old. Especially compared to Sim city 3000.You can zoom in and out and rotate so you get different views of the city.
Simcity2000 is addictive, especially when you first have it but after a few months it may become less addictive. This is a must for all Sim game fans as well as others.
