Simcity - nowhere near as good as it should have been

I have been playing the SimCity of games for the past 15 years and when this game was first announced it was one I put on my "must have list".

Well I have been playing the game since release now and although the basics of the game are the same as the previous versions, it feels to me as though its been made to easy by EA to fit it with the Sims series.

People might think that being easier might make it more appealing however not in my opinion, for example you can take out 3 bonds of up to 100,000 simoleons (yes the currency in the game is also simoleons) and if the city starts struggling turn off individual buildings to reduce the running costs.

There are however some issues which in this type of game there shouldnt be :(

Firstly no longer are you able to level terrain and fill in any water on the land your given. This might not seem a great deal to new users however makes it a little harder to plan ahead.... There have been several times I have had to bulldoze zones and rebuild completely due to this.

The maps are a LOT smaller than the previous games, therefore its possible to fill your city within a couple of hours of play time, I mean once you have built schools, libraries, a university and a high school not good for those who are used to the previous generations of games.

There are also quite a lot of bugs, for example I spent around a week building a region of 4 cities - all with different specialties such as mining, oil production and decided in order to get more tourist would build an airport. This was quite expensive and shortly after it was built there was a small fire - which shouldnt have been a problem, in Sim City it was however as all my fire department got stuck in traffic and couldnt get to it before it completely burnt down.

The game needs to have an active internet connection to connect with the EA servers, really ?? I know that developers must protect there games but always being online to play a sim seems a little aggressive, whats wrong with the good old CD Key protection. EA say this is due to the leaderboards within the game, however these are still not working on any of the servers.

Dont get me wrong there are a lot of plus points to this game, such as the good graphics and gameplay once you ignore the flaws however until all the bugs are ironed out its one I would avoid for the time being.

Hopefully there will be further patches to address the issues and make this the game that it should be.
