Command & Conquer Generals (PC) ... Command and Conquer series has seemingly gotten better and better up to a point. I thought that they couldn t be topped with the superb Red Alert 2, and while Generals DOESN T beat RA2, it is a solid follow up that s just as good, and features some juiced-up visuals that were at the time quite testing for even good gaming rigs. However, the jovial tone that permeated throughout the previous B-movie entries persists, making this yet another fun yarn that never gets serious and political like more misguided attempts have done. Rollercoaster Tycoon Loopy Landscapes (PC) ... original Rollercoaster Tycoon was such a fun and exciting game when it was released, and has since had many sequels and expansion packs, one of the better of which is Loopy Landscapes, a game that adds quite a lot to the sim experience although would definitely have benefitted from having even more to justify its cost. Visually, the game, like most expansion packs, does absolutely nothing to enhance the original game, and so it s difficult to praise it in this regard. Nevertheless, for its original price-tag of £20, people weren t going to be expecting a huge overhaul, and so it is mostly forgivable. Flight Simulator 98 (PC) ... should probably preface my review by saying that I got this game free with a PC many, many years ago, and had no intention ever of buying it. However, it did allure me by what my 10-year old self viewed as a rather ridiculous concept for a game, so one day, I popped it in my computer and gave it a whirl. Needless to say, while I didn t really have much of a clue what I was doing, I spent hours on that game, largely crashing the plane into buildings and generally being impressed that they had managed to make the game quite fun through its technical marvel and impressive faithfulness to trying to recreate the flying experience.
