The gameplay also is nothing to get overly excited about although it is solid enough to remain an enjoyable experience despite a quite a few bugs and glitches. While not revolutionary in gameplay the controls are simple, the firefights are fun and the graphics weren't too terrible for the time of it's release. What really set SOF apart from the competition was it's very high gore content. A well placed shot would rip limbs off, sever...more

Soldier of Fortune (PC): War On Terror! (217 words)

Rating:

This is one of the better pc games out there and will work on some older pc's I can happily say. This fabulous first person mode shooter game comes from activision and is top quality in every way. The levels are set out perfectly and the game is really enjoyable to play as you constantly blast your way through enemy after enemy destroying anything and everything in your path. You can also choose levels of the amount of enemies that there are on each level, so if you wish to add maximum gore and blood levels you can. As you progress through the game you travel from country to country in search of major reknowned terrorists and for some reason the ...  Read the complete review

Howdy-ho, Decided on a whim to see what some people in the FPS arena have been blathering about much of the time about this title, so I borrowed it and gave it a whirl. First of all, it must be noted that this title has an 18/R rating, and this is made bleeding obvious by Activision, which is highly commendable and noble on their part... alas, with the review already! Synopsis: You are John Mullins, mercenary/assassin contracted to perform all the 'wet-work' that Governments worldwide aren't willing to do themselves: ie. take out high-ranking Iraqi officials, etc. Not in a detailed way mind you, but that's the plot. ...  Read the complete review

Soldier of Fortune (PC): Heads Will Roll!!! (310 words)

Soldier of fortune is a fps (first person shooter) created by raven software and published by activision. It was released in the year 2000 (which makes me feel inredibly old). SOF's story is nothing revolutionary, a group of neo nazi terrorists steal a handful of nuclear warheads from a russian facility, then sell said warheads to the highest bidding third world countries. The action takes place accross the globe from dense columbian jungle to the streets of Japan with even a few vehicle based missions to get through (gun mounted truck and kick ass attack chopper). The gameplay also is nothing to get overly excited about although it is solid enough ...  Read the complete review

The most violent game ever? (329 words)
by - written on 04/09/09 (Very useful, 39 readings)
Rating:

Soldier of Fortune is a brilliant and extremely controversial game thanks largely because of its nauseatingly excessive violence, and aestheticisation of such, where you can dismember every part of an opponent's body with the appropriate weaponry. Nevertheless, this is a brilliant game that delivers a satisfyingly visceral punch, a fun and fast-moving plot, and is just challenging enough. The film pits you as John Mullins, a mercenary who works for a company known only as The Shop, and who is attempting to stop a shipment of nuclear weapons to a group of Neo-Nazis. Although not a very long game (that's quite easily completable in under 6 hours), it's an ...  Read the complete review

Soldier of Fortune (PC): It'll Blow Your Mind (436 words)

When i first saw SOF i thouht it was just another first person shoot-em-up but it is so much more than that. For starters the amount of gore in the game can keep you laughing for days. I personally will never get tierd of killing someone and proceding to blow all their limbs off leaving just their torso. Apart from this though the game does have a high level of realsim. the main point being that if you shoot someone in the leg they will limp and if you shoot them in the head they will die. Apart from Operation Flashpoint i cannot thnk of another game that does this. There are also no handy placed med packs scattered when you need them most and then ...  Read the complete review
