Advantages: pretty fun up until the 3rd stage
Disadvantages: tribal stage sucks
Spore is a computer game for the PC (though you can also get these for the Nintendo DS and other consoles). This is available in stores like Game and Zavvi and also online on Amazon.co.uk and Play.com for about £30.
What I initially liked about this game, was the concept; it's basically an evolution game where you grow your own species of creatures and can design what they look like, their abilities and what you want them to do.
As the game starts, you have to chose a planet that you want your creature to live on. You start off as a cell and can choose whether you're a herbivore or carnivore. Then you have to either eat plants or blood cells in order to grow and survive, avoid the bigger creatures that are sure to eat you and kill you and you also have to mate with your own species, to create a larger nest. So that was the cell stage.
Next, you develop into a creature once you've eaten enough as a cell and sprout legs. You then get out of the water and go onto the land and build your nest there. The mission now is to either befriend other creatures or kill and eat them. Killing other creatures is mainly useful if you're a carnivore, as eating meat will just make you sick as a herbivore.
After that, there's the tribal stage, which I personally hate and decided to call it quits once I got to this stage, as it irritated and bored me to death and I just couldn't be bothered to play anymore. I think you have to be quite patient and persistent and to be honest, I can be patient and persistent in most real life scenarios, but with gaming, I am the most impatient person ever! I'm not a gamer so if I no longer enjoy the game, I'm out!
So, I've concluded that this game can be pretty entertaining and fun, right up until the tribal stage, where it just get too irritating for me to follow through. Sorry Spore, I thought you'd be more fun than this.
Summary: you need patience and willpower to finish this
