Advantages: A must for any Trekkie fan

Disadvantages: Bit too much simplicity

After 3 consectutive days I finally managed to find a single copy of it in Electronics Boutique, at £29.99. I thought "why not?", so I decided to buy it. After I got home I placed the CD in my CD-ROM drive. The autorun started with a less than attractive splash screen. I ran through the installation, and although it lasted the best part of 15 minutes, it wouldn't persuade me to exit (my PC is a high-end 600 AMD Athlon, and a 48x speed CD-ROM, so it is a very big size, that can't be changed for those who have to delete everything just to install their latest game).
The main menu comes with animated Star Trek scenes for each option, but is somewhat pointless. The single player option consists of a campaign for each playable race.
Although they don't last long, they all fit in perfectly with the excellent story line, that is continued as you do each campaign in order.
The non-Trekkie fans among you may think this is another less-than mediocre RTS game, although the graphics that are available are some of the best I've seen in an RTS ever - if you have a 3D card, you're in for a treat, as hull reflections are also included.
Play as the Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans or, a first in a Star Trek game, the Borg. Each race has its own in-game interface, complete with voice effects whenever you click on a unit. The downfall of the game I have to say is the amount of units that you can use in your armada. Each race has only 5 classes. There is everything from the defiant-class to the sovereign-class to the deadly Borg cube, complete with unique power-ups for each race and units, such as the Borg cube holding beam, and the cloaking device for all warships of the super-sly Romulans. Overall this game is fun to play, Trekkie and non-Trekkies alike, although I think it could do with an expansion pack. Are you reading this Activision?

Oh yeah, even though you can't be them, you can actually play against other
major races in the Star Trek universe in the single player mode, them being the Cardassians and the Dominion!
