Around the time of its release, Lucasarts had quite a bad track record with regards to Star Wars based games, none of them really offered something never seen before. The bad news? Nor does Galactic Battlegrounds. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, it really was an excellent game, but as far as a Star Wars fan was concerned it was mediocre at best. The goal of the game was to basically collect resources, build and army and destroy the enemy. The basic outline of any RTS game. There was an element of story to the game through the campaign mode. You could play through the game as each of the available civilisations, Wookies, Gungans, Trade Federation, The ... Read the complete review

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is a real time strategy game made by Lucas Arts and released in 2001 and an expansion pack has been released since. The game is mainly single player but online multiplayer is available too. Game play The game is similar in play type to games like age of empires and seems at times that all they have done is changed the units and landscape, the game is based around the Wookiees, Royal Naboo, the Trade Federation, the Empire, the Rebels, and the Gungans and you have to take control of one of the sides, the game is mainly campaigned based with two based on the Wookiees and one for each of the other sides. Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is a fantastic stratergy game set in the style of command and conquer. You can play campaign missions as wookies, rebel alliance, the empire, trade federation, gungans etc. there is a multi-player mode where you can play on a network or online, skirmish mode where you can pick your team and your opponents, the type of gameplay (my fave is deathmatch where you play til your opponent is totally wiped out). Also you can create your own map and choose your battles there. You can build your base up consisting of hqs, barracks, vehicle factories, power plants and resource harvesting facilities. You can also build huge armies consisting of ... Read the complete review

If you have read my other reviews you will know I'm not a huge fan of RTS games because of the fact you need different resources to build stuff and it takes ages. However I will buy the game if it's a theme I like, in this case star wars, unfortunately you do have to get resources but if you're a fan you can put up with it. There's no real story but there are missions you can do which have you do different thing which are challenging but not that varied so I got bored quickly. You can play as the classic four factions from the films, Empire, Rebels, Naboo or Droids, each side has no real advantage over the other so it doesn't matter who you play as, its just ... Galactic battlegrounds is actualy just Age of Empires 2 whit diffirent units and skins, not to mention lasers, instead of wood you will be mining carbon rocks and instead of stone you will be mining ore rocks I will admit it is one of the better strategy games to come out of Star wars it is in no way unique or above average, spaceships and being able to somewhat create space levels might seem like its diffirent from normal Age of Empires 2 but when your starfighters keep hovering on the spot to shoot at targets it gets old pretty quick, half of the units just dont look like they belong either, bright red tips on the tips of the rockets of all the anti-aircraft ...
