Advantages: Good strategy game
Disadvantages: Too similiar in game play style to other games
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is a real time strategy game made by Lucas Arts and released in 2001 and an expansion pack has been released since. The game is mainly single player but online multiplayer is available too.
Game play
The game is similar in play type to games like age of empires and seems at times that all they have done is changed the units and landscape, the game is based around the Wookiees, Royal Naboo, the Trade Federation, the Empire, the Rebels, and the Gungans and you have to take control of one of the sides, the game is mainly campaigned based with two based on the Wookiees and one for each of the other sides.
As is similar games you start of with very few units and have to build up your base by gathering resources and building new units to wipe the enemy out. To begin with there is very few units available to build and you have to upgrade to get to better units, buildings although on the earlier levels you can not access some. There is plenty of units and building types to unlock and upgrade over 200, as you go along.
The locations of the battles are in areas where you would know from the films, and you can also construct new campaigns yourself on them and the cut scenes are pretty good and the sound is what you would expect.
Controls/Graphics
The graphics are pretty good and the units are fairly detailed and you can easily tell which unit is which, and the view you get is what you expect, the controls are similar to games that are like this mainly mouse so pretty easy to control what is going on
Difficulty
With 6 campaigns the game is fairly long and although it starts of fairly easy as you go along on the harder campaigns it gets fairly hard the AI which is not great is not to bad and can give you quite a good fight.
Multiplayer
Up to 8 players can play at once against each other, victory depends on defeating the enemy
Value for Money
The single player game is pretty long with the 6 campaigns and plenty to unlock and do so will take awhile to complete, the multiplayer whilst being there is ok but not great but adds a bit to the game also the option to build your own levels and maps is pretty good.
It is probably only really worth buying if you are a Star Wars fan as the Age of Empire games are a lot better to play and is basically the same game.
Summary: A game for Star Wars fans
