As a result of the fact that I don’t booze quite so much anymore - coupled with the fact that I’m also in the Arts faculty of Glasgow University – means I have far too much free time. Before the boozing, I spent my time playing on computer type things [I still do, but no one wants to hear about older boys playing video games]. StarCraft is in the same vein as “Command & Conquer”, or “Total Annihilation”. This genre is referred to as “Real Time Strategy”. You have total control over your forces. There are three main things to do in these games: Harvest, Build and Destroy. Harvesting means acquiring resources so you can Build. Building your forces up enough ... Read the complete review

Starcraft is a relatively old game. Not 'classic' old like Super Bomber Man but old enough to be dated. This said it is only dated in presentation and graphics, the game itself is still as good as ever. The major advantage of it being an older game is that it's now available on the 'Best Seller' series and costs about £10. I bought the Blizzard Entertainment Package which had Starcraft and it's expansion Broodwar, more on that later, Diablo and Warcraft 2 all in one box and it cost me about £20, bargain. If you didn't follow that then it was three old games and one expansion pack for less than the price of one modern game. I only really play ... Read the complete review

Before I bought this game all I knew about blizzard was that they had created my favourite game on the PC Diablo. I had never played warcraft and therefore had no expectations of how it would compare, however after now playing warcraft I feel I wouldn't have been disappointed. A wonderful real-time strategy game that in my opinion is the best of its genre, replacing Red Alert as my favourite game of this type. For people who don't know about this type of game the basic idea is that you produce units and buildings and have to completely destroy the other teams (although objectives differ in missions). It sounds simple, but when you have to work out ... Read the complete review

Starcraft: (Brood War) ... set in the future, where three races collide ... Terran - the nomadic, adaptable humans; Protoss - technologically advanced, having also mastered psionics; and the Zerg - an organic race with accelerated mutating / evolving abilities... Brood War adds new units on top of Starcraft - and is thoroughly recommended - as it is also, imo, more fun to play. In system requirements, it is rather modest these days, requiring minimum a 2Mb 2D SVGA graphics card, Pentium-100, 16Mb of memory, and 80Mb of HD space. A recommended minimum would be Pentium 166Mhz, 32Mb, and 120Mb of HD space. In general, as an RTS game, it is ... Read the complete review
