Each team is very balanced (through years of testing and through updates from hardcore players) and it really is up to player skill to actually win a battle online. The two resources that are available to the player in the game are minerals and vespene gas. Minerals are always close to your starting base and are the backbone resource for everything in the game (from building command centres, to your basic offensive/ defensive units). Crowned ReviewA Blizzard of Entertainment (2795 words)

Rating:

Starcraft is a relatively old game. Not 'classic' old like Super Bomber Man but old enough to be dated. This said it is only dated in presentation and graphics, the game itself is still as good as ever. The major advantage of it being an older game is that it's now available on the 'Best Seller' series and costs about £10. I bought the Blizzard Entertainment Package which had Starcraft and it's expansion Broodwar, more on that later, Diablo and Warcraft 2 all in one box and it cost me about £20, bargain. If you didn't follow that then it was three old games and one expansion pack for less than the price of one modern game. I only really play ..  Read the complete review

Crowned ReviewStarCraft (PC): Best of its genre (1631 words)

Rating:

Before I bought this game all I knew about blizzard was that they had created my favourite game on the PC Diablo. I had never played warcraft and therefore had no expectations of how it would compare, however after now playing warcraft I feel I wouldn't have been disappointed. A wonderful real-time strategy game that in my opinion is the best of its genre, replacing Red Alert as my favourite game of this type. For people who don't know about this type of game the basic idea is that you produce units and buildings and have to completely destroy the other teams (although objectives differ in missions). It sounds simple, but when you have to work out ...  Read the complete review

Crowned ReviewDeep... very deep... yet easy to learn.... (1023 words)

Starcraft: (Brood War) ... set in the future, where three races collide ... Terran - the nomadic, adaptable humans; Protoss - technologically advanced, having also mastered psionics; and the Zerg - an organic race with accelerated mutating / evolving abilities... Brood War adds new units on top of Starcraft - and is thoroughly recommended - as it is also, imo, more fun to play. In system requirements, it is rather modest these days, requiring minimum a 2Mb 2D SVGA graphics card, Pentium-100, 16Mb of memory, and 80Mb of HD space. A recommended minimum would be Pentium 166Mhz, 32Mb, and 120Mb of HD space. In general, as an RTS game, it is ...  Read the complete review

StarCraft (PC): One of Blizzards an oldie but a goodie (360 words)
by - written on 09/09/10 (Very useful, 23 readings)
Rating:

Blizzard's Starcraft game is one of the best real time strategy games ever released, even with its now heavily dated graphics it remains widely played due to its immense playability and the excellent map campaign editor which allows an almost infinite number of battlefields and scenarios to be created. This is also partly due to battle net an online gaming system connecting you with other Starcraft players from all around the globe. The main aim of every game is that you take control of one of three diverse races the human Terrans or the alien Protoss or Zerg. Each race has its own units, buildings and traits that determine the play style favoured for each ...  Read the complete review
