Advantages: Fantastic gameplay, good story and very good replay value
Disadvantages: Graphics could be much better
Chances are if you game at all you've heard of Starcraft and there's a very good reason for that, it hooks you from the beginning whether you're a strategy fan or not.
There are three races - Protoss, Terrans and Zerg. Protoss are a powerful robotic race good at both attacking and defending however they have no high power units which can compete with those of the Terrans or Zerg. Terrans don't excel in any particular area, they're your standard all-rounders. Zerg are an alien race whose creatures and buildings have the ability to self-heal, their flaw is that they are dependant upon a hive. This means that if you have enough troops of another race for you to make it to the hive you won't have to destroy as many Zerg buildings and troops or at least you won't have as much trouble doing so as when you're pitted against the Terrans or Protoss.
Overall the graphics are slightly more than adequate, the sound is immersive, the gameplay will hook you and the story is told largely through conversations your troops have. You can find maps and campaigns online which adds to the replay value but even without those the replay value for this game is very high and I'm certainly looking forward to Starcraft 2. If you buy this then buy it with the brood wars expansion pack. It's not that I think by itself the game isn't good, it's that you'll certainly want to buy the expansion pack having played it so you might as well buy both together.
I would give this 5/5 but as the graphics could be much better I'll go with 4/5. Even though I don't think the lower graphics quality takes away from the game it's still something that could be improved.
Summary: Worth far more than it's current price tag, a timeless classic
