If you've ever watched a John Woo film such as Hard Boiled or The Killer, which starred his frequent collaborator Chow Yun-Fat, and you're a fan of video games, you know that his films have been prime material for a videogame adaptation for years. Max Payne was the closest that we ever got, and delivered superbly, and finally, with Strangehold, we get the unique Woo experience: an action-packed, amusing, strange, ridiculous, and thoroughly entertaining game. The plot isn't really important, but it has you playing as Yun-Fat's famed character Inspector Tequila, trying to take down the baddies once again with some heroic bloodshed and your impressive gunfighting ... What I liked best when playing Stranglehold, was the possibility to completely destroy the whole environment. Usually, in games like nothing much happens if your bullets miss your enemy and hit an object or wall. Not here – play it with your earphones on and you’ll duck for cover under your desk! A fantastic game and good to let off some steam.

I’ve read here and there that some people think this game has too much action… It probably means that you’re being challenged from the get-go and always have to be prepared for a shootout, but how you can say a shooter has “too much action” is beyond me – isn’t that what it’s all about? So you barely have time to catch your breath, but that’s just the way I like it!

Chow Yun-Fat let them implement his looks and voice into the game. The slow motion scenes, typical of a John Woo movie, also have been implemented and this is a really useful feature when you have to kill lots of baddies simultaneously. In the game the mode is called “Tequila-Time”. Thanks to the ... Read the complete review
