Age of Empires 2 (PC)
by RedFlag
When I say that I play a lot of computer games, I mean a lot, especially on my computer, and Age of Empire 2 is one game that I particularly enjoyed playing. When it comes to video games, I like to be able to face a challenge when playing, and unlike some, this game kept me entertained for hours and hours. I had played the first edition ... of Age of Empire, so knew the basic genre is you like, but was surprised at much improved this 2nd edition was. At the time, when it came out, especially for a PC game, Age of Empire 2 added feature upon feature to keep any game player entetained.
I didnt buy this game when it first came out, so didnt pay full price, I picked it up on Ebay in a collection of other games, so I would say I paid about £2 for it, which is about right for a PC game these days. Even when I finished the game, I kept on repeating it, as there are so many different ways to complete it, which is the very reason I love strategy games. I found that the further I went into the game, the harder it became, another bonus in my opinion, which is why it took longer to complete.
Because 10 tens years ago, graphics for video games werent want there are today, I would give the best rating in this area, but I image that at the time, they were amazing. Even so, I definitely recommend this game to all avid gamers, not to be missed. Thanks for reading. Read the complete review |

Guild Wars (PC)
by scmk6868
I have been playing Guild Wars off and on for the last 5 years, and it has been a great ride. This game never gets old, and I love logging into it almost every day.
Guild Wars has been going on for a long time, and there have been many expansions. If you are just getting into the game, expect a lot of the players to already be ... leveled up to the max and explored areas that you won't see for a long time. Don't let this worry you, you'll still be able to find characters in the growing guild wars world that are starting off like yourself and can team up with you throughout the game. I still see new players on there asking for advice and learning how the game is played.
Guild Wars is an MMORPG, which means that all gameplay is online. The community is large, so you can usually find players with you to go on quests. The great thing about Guild Wars is that if you can't find a group to mission with, there are computer characters that you can add to your party for support. They are usually at a level similar to the enemies, so they are helpful for the missions around that area.
There is a great economy in Guild Wars. There are a lot of active players that trade items, materials, runes, and other equipment that will help your character throughout the game. There is even a section on the chat feature dedicated to the market, so anyone announcing their sales can be heard through that filter.
The graphics of the game are great. They aren't spectacular to today's standards, but they were great for their time and still hold a candle to today's games. The sound is superb, both in the music and the voices.
The gameplay itself is fun, and long. There are a lot of main quests, and many more sidequests. This game has a ton of gameplay hours and doesn't get boring at all. You can always find someone in the game willing to do a sidequest with you to futher the storyline.
The best part about this game is that it is free-to-play. After you buy the game, there are no further charges for playing it online. This is great for people that only play every so often and don't want to play a monthly fee.
For the price that you can get this game at, I would suggest picking up a copy of this game and installing it on your PC. You won't be disappoined! Read the complete review |

Black and White (PC)
by Donnabroom
Black and White:
I was recently browsing through my game collection searching for something to dull my boredom and I stumbled upon Black and White. In it's day it was one of my favourite games and so I wondered how much I would enjoy it now after all this time.
Back in 2001 it was hard to avoid the praise and hype being ... lauded on Black and White and I have to admit I caved into the advertising and bought it. I spent a while playing it until I got bored and moved to something else.
Black and White is a "God Game" where the player (you) plays the part of the deity of a small village of people in the early stages of civilisation. The game begins with you being to prayed to by a distraught mother who wants you to save her child from drowning. You save the child and are led to the village by the grateful woman and the game begins properly.
You control a cursor in the shape of a hand which allows you to interact with the village and inhabitants in a range of ways such as moving things, throwing things around, (including people which is fun for at least a couple of minutes), waking people up, performing miracles, controlling your avatar etc.
Throughout the game you are given objectives to complete (gold which advance the main story line and silver which are side quests), you get an avatar to train and you get to make moral choices which determine whether you are good/evil and if your believers worship you out of love or fear.
The game was produced by Lionhead Studios (who also produced Fable and were a break away from Bull Frog who were famous for God Games such as Power Monger and Populous) and was published by EA and Feral Interactive. There was an expansion for Black and White called "Creature Isles" and a sequel called (you guessed it) Black and White 2.
I enjoyed the game immensely but I do remember that it had it's faults. Some of the quests were overly difficult and the quest information was lacking which was frustrating at times. Thankfully you could always look things up online but it took some of the fun away.
By today's standards the 3D graphics are fairly basic, (they were incredible at the time), and the same can be said for the sound effects and music but it was always about the game play and the unusual theme that made the game so enthralling and it has lost none of it's impact after all this time.
You can buy Black and White for the PC for £1.71 on Amazon which is amazing value for a game that is still enjoyable. Read the complete review |
