... for a far more engaging game, which requires far more thinking than a game such as red alert. The negatives are that the game is not (for me at least) a game which I can just sit down and play- I have to be in the mood. Red alert on the other hand is easy just to start playing and destroying hapless computer enemies if you don't feel like a tough game. There are no easy games in Sudden Strike! Realism aside, this game plays very well albeit slowly. The graphics are pleasing, in particular the explosions which alway...more

Premium Review Sudden Strike Gold Edition Xplosiv (PC): Realistic, Bloody Hard, AS I SAID REALISTIC! (885 words)
by - written on 28/10/02 (Very useful, 165 readings)
Rating:

Sudden Strike is a Real Time Strategy game, it is set in World War II and contains 3 sides available for invading European land, whether it be by the Allies, NAZI Germany or the U.S.S.R., the levels are tough, time-consuming and realistic. Sudden Strike has been available for a few years now and should cost you no more than £20 for the original; I bought it for £15 with an extra missions disc, Great Value. Sudden is as I keep on drilling in to you, realistic. Command and Conquer and Age of Empires do have an amount of realism in them but be honest, who is going to build a Farm, a Barracks or an Ore Refinery (if it existed) during the D-Day landings. The concept ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review War huh what is it good for, absolutly nothing sing it again ... (648 words)

Sudden strike is a RTS that puts you right in the middle of the WWII the choice is yours to play the allies, the Russians or the Germans each with there own set of missions and objectives to compleate on huge detailed maps set in different locations and showing different seasons. The are also many single missions with a second CD included with many more missions. Having been used to playing RTS games such as age of empires and the army men series being thrown into an RTS world where (shock horror) you couldn't just click a button and new troops would be built give this game the added difficulty that the forementioned games do not posses, giving this game ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sudden Strike Gold Edition Xplosiv (PC): Difficult, but detailed war game (441 words)
by - written on 26/06/01 (Very useful, 86 readings)
Rating:

This game is similar in design to the Command and Conquer series, but has a lot more detail graphically. The main thing that you notice when you first start to play is the difficulty level. The practice mission is easy enough, it lets you work out the control system, which can be a bit fiddly at first, and gives you an idea of what you can and can't do in the game. As soon as you get to the first mission though, it's time to get that hankie out and mop your sweating brow! One false command and you could see your precious troops decimated by a single cannon. The enemy could be hiding anywhere, and quite often you won't realise it until you're ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The best World War Two Strategy Game out! (947 words)
by - written on 12/06/01 (Very useful, 440 readings)
Rating:

Most real time strategy games set in WW2 are turn based, which is what makes this game stand out from the rest, as it works similar to Red Alert. The action is far better than anything Red Alert has to offer, and also wins due to the fact it's based on real events and weaponry. Set in WW2 you can take charge of the Allies, the Germans, or the Russians, each having its own individual campaign, totalling over 40 missions, as well as a series of quick missions. The units are recreated excellently, and the range of units is amazing, with over 100. There are Katyushas, various types of Panzers, Sturmtigers, T-34s, Shermans, Mortars, Snipers, Submachine ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sudden Strike Gold Edition Xplosiv (PC): WW2 is back on your computer (394 words)
by - written on 21/11/00 (Very useful, 120 readings)
Rating:

While every other turn-based strategy game is set in World War II, their real-time counterparts tend to shy away from the era, preferring futuristic or fantasy settings. This is a little strange since WWII is such a rich mine of ideas, settings and stimulating images for a game. Sudden Strike is one of the rare few that are based on the time and the game gains a lot because of it. There are times when Sudden Strike is awe-inspiring. Massive epic battles rage across deserted European towns with thousands of troops facing off against hordes of hulking grey tanks while bombers overhead reduce make-shift bases to piles of rubble. But for every minute of ...  Read the complete review

Fun, Simple to get the hang of, Not complicated, Great graphics, Great sound, Nice side mini games. The side mini games can be very difficult. Sometimes the tracks can get repetitive.

Addictive, plenty of scenarios to complete, fun for all age groups poor graphics, repetive gameplay, overshadowed by Zoon Tycoon 2.

Slick detail, good strategy and challenging. Poor graphics and time consuming

None Everything

Better graphic and slightly improved game play, More cars and two new cities, Very similar to original, and that was a great game, so this must be good too A little to like the originalToo much to pay for an add-on
