... of events. There is a wide range of events, and the graphics and commentary are all well and good, but in my opinion, the game play is poor. The mode of going through the whole Olympic event, qualifying, training your person etc is a good idea but poorly done. I think that this game was made to meet the demand of the hype that surrounded the excellent event in real life. To be fair, that’s why I bought it. But I was extremely let down by this game and hope for something better. The game play needs to be improve...more

Premium Review Sydney 2000 (PC): it's great (377 words)

When I got my first look at Sydney 2000 is instantly thought it was nowhere near as good as Track & Field or Track & Field 2. The graphics are quite poor and the events didn't look particularlygood. But playing the game against friends using my multitap made the game very fun and quite adictive. The evnts are more complicated than on Track & Field, which I think is a good feature. I was playing on this game on a 2 day rental, and almost the entire time I stayed on multiplayer arcade mode. Litle did I realise how much more the game has to offer. In Olympic mode you can spend half-hours or even hours just to become gold medallist at one event. As ...  Read the complete review

If you can't wait for International Track & Field or Virtua Athlete then get Sydney Olympics 2000 it's the OFFICIAL olympics game and is worth buying although the afore-mentioned games will be better. It might be wise to invest in a new controller or two as there gonna get worn out fast as this game promises to be no exception to the 'button-bashing' genre of Athlete games. The graphics look strange but very cool and the game is presented very well indeed. If you haven't heard anything about this game yet then don't worry - just watch the TV during the Olympics as this game WILL be advertised. I recommend if you can't wait - after all it looks as though the real olympics ...  Read the complete review

Sydney 2000 (PC): Bringing the olympics to you (277 words)

I had great expectations for this game having thoroughly enjoyed playing Olympic Games and Track and Field on the Playstation. However the one thing that both these games lacked was a solid single player mode, both excelled in the area of multi-player excitement. Sydney 2000 tries to readjust this by introducing a 1-player game that involves some form of story. You as the manager of 12 athletes have to try and build each individual athlete up to Olympic standard and then take them to Sydney to try and win as many gold medals as you can. Like games of the same genre before it, it fails to deliver the necessary longetivity in 1-player mode. As well as the Olympic ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Good news for the unfit! (194 words)

Sydney 2000 is a decent game, that has a range of events to master. The controls may not really differ from the `button-bashing` of past games in the genre, but it is still a great deal of fun. From the usual events like sprinting and pole vault to the lesser watched such as diving and kayaking, Sydney 2000 has something for everyone. The graphics are very nice, although you need a fairly high-end PC to get everything running smoothly. The sound is also very well done, with great effects and commentary. My only worry about this title is that the single-player mode may wear thin, and become repetitive. However, the master stroke is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sydney 2000 (PC): Modern game which is old fashioned (216 words)

I actually received this game for free from DVD Express when I placed an order there. After playing the game for awhile, I understand why they were giving it away. Remember the old Track and Field arcade game from the early 80's where you alternated pressing buttons to get your guy to run faster or jump higher? That's exactly what Sydney 2000 is like, except without the fun aspect. There's no mouse support at all, you can't even type a player's name on the keyboard (you have to use the arrow keys), and you can't change the keyboard configuration. While there are 4 different configurations, none had the key layout I wanted. Each ...  Read the complete review
