A hugely deep and complex yet engaging and visceral game, System Shock 2 is an utterly immersive experience. The character class you have chosen affects how you play the game, as does the manner in ...more

Premium Review System Shock 2 (PC): System Shock 2 - PC (222 words)

Out of all the PC games I have played this one has to be the most enjoyable. Though the game does take a while to master and the controls to get used to it is well worth going through. Looking Glass Studios present this game to you by starting you off going through a series of training development in weapons, tech and psionic abilities. Once you complete your training you are then given a choice of whether you would like to join the marines, the navy or some other organization (can't remember it sorry!). The game never did that well commercially and there are rumours of a System Shock 3 though Irrational did release the predecessor to it, ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review A superb and utterly terrifying cyberpunk RPG (709 words)

"Look at you, hacker: a pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine? " Released back in 1999, system shock 2 stands alongside Deus Ex as one of the greatest role-playing first person shooters ever created. The plot sees you play as either a marine, computer hacker or psionics expert (You can choose which developmental path you wish to follow at the beginning of the game) trapped on the Von Braun, a vast research starship that is being accompanied through space by the Rickenbacker, a heavily armed warship. You awake with amnesia in the medical ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review System Shock 2 (PC): 'Look at you, Hacker!' Ultra-classic, ultra-quality FPS/RPG (1558 words)

Developer: Irrational Games Publisher: EA Games Those of you who read my games reviews will note that I favour games with a more 'filmic' quality: those with great stories/plots, interaction with other characters, tangible atmosphere and that often elusive quality called 'immersiveness'. Maybe this is down to my being such a film buff. No mindless shoot-em-ups or beat-em-ups in my review list - I do play those from time to time, but they're just not very interesting to review! The below is another example, one of the best, of what I think of as the above-described 'filmic' type of game. This is the sequel to the classic 1994 FPS/RPG game System ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Thrilling, creepy sci-fi (368 words)
by - written on 04/09/09 (Very useful, 2 readings)
Rating:

System Shock 2 is one of the most harrowing and terrifying games ever made for any platform, and stands alongside the likes of Half Life as one of the visceral and thoroughly engrossing science fiction FPS games of all time. The game melds two genres - science fiction, along with the dystopian cyberpunk aesthetic of the noir genre, making this a very odd, but undeniably enticing and alluring mix, that's quite unlike anything else you've ever played. The game has a simple premise - you're aboard a spaceship as strange things start going on, and you begin to see odd ghostly apparitions around the ship. Through a great deal of exploration, and attaining numerous ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review System Shock 2 (PC): Shockingly Hard! - Updated (810 words)
by - written on 11/08/01 (Very useful, 95 readings)
Rating:

The only reason I bought System Shock 2 was because I heard it was the same kind of game as Deus Ex. It was actually made by the same people, before Deus Ex. The game is a RPG/FPS (role playing game/first person shooter). This means you make your way through levels (killing if necessary) and develop your character. The game is set in the future (around 2100 I think). Before you play you have to do some training, first basic training and then advanced training – it’s a good idea because this game can be quite complicated. After that you chose whether you want to be in the Navy, Marines or OSA. What you join determines your skills: Navy = ...  Read the complete review

New weapons and multiplayer interface EVERYTHING!

Stunning to look at. Sounds nice too Not enough carnage

Network...Network....Network play...... Hmmmmmm........

do whatever you want to help your teams war the population has dropped and its a rough diamond.

Both fun and funny; more tactical depth than you might think; loads of bonus content. Takes a little while to become challenging.

The box is pretty. The items are of a good quality and the pack has potential. The game inside the box isn't worth installing due to risks of potentially game-breaking bugs.
