Advantages: Huge areas to explore, epic storyline

Disadvantages: Combat system, graphics look dated

Morrowind, put simply, is a huge game. Pretty much as soon as it starts you're cast out into a massive (and I don't use that word lightly) world, where you can pretty much do anything. Yes, you will have been given a task to complete at the beginning of the game, but it's up to you when, or indeed if, you do it. If you prefer, you could just go off and wander around, exploring caves, stealing from shops, or just hunting in the wilderness. Being an RPG (role-playing game), the more time you put in, the more you'll get out of the game. This is not a game to buy if you only like playing a few minutes every now and again.

However, as is often the case with games of this scale, the game is far from perfect. Due to the sheer size of the area you get to explore, a lot of the scenery is very same-y. The graphics are also very dated now, with characters, creatures and items all looking very angular.

Another issue is with the combat system. When you start out, your character will have low statistics, so if you attack something with a sword, odds are you'll miss (even if the on-screen animation shows you hitting your target). This can lead to frustration, especially when you get killed by a rat bite despite the armour you're wearing and your on-screen character having missed 7 times in a row from 6 inches away with a sword.

That said, if you persevere, the game gets very good, especially the way the storyline keeps throwing plot-twists at you.

Summary: Good, if you've got a lot of time to put into it
