I originally bought the game after playing the first one; i thought it would be similar but with a few cool add ons. It then became apparent that it was quite a bit better than the first which was brilliant. The gameplay, the extra game styles, the campaign all had a unique style which was different from the first, which was really important for the game to be good in it's own right. The campaign focuses on mostly unknown heroes, although some do have bit parts in the films, which emphasises its unique appeal. The campaign is good, however the best part of the game in my opinion would be the war of the ring. It allows you to individually conquer territories and destroy your opponents armies. Its set up works like a skirmish in the sense that you make your allies and opponents before the game starts and then you enter the game on a map of middle earth. There are about 30 or so territories, each giving you different bonus' such as command points. You are also able to build two buildings on each territory which if you enter a skirmish there will be previously built for you. You can build troops and upgrade them, so you could effectively have an army before you enter into a skirmish. The skirmishes on war of the ring are playable if you and an opponent are both vying for the same territory; then you can either automatically determine the outcome or enter into the skirmish in real time. War of the ring allows you to be tactical in the map arena while fighting in the skirmishes, which gives everyone the opportunity to do what they like. If you haven't thought of getting this game but enjoy these types of games and/or LOTR then i would definitely recommend it.
This really is an excellent RTS, if you're a fan of the Command and Conquer series and the Lord of the Rings films then this is a must buy. Its got a fairly basic engine; you build your base, defend your base then attack your opponent! Make no mistake, there is plenty of time to spend playing this game, the campaign modes are great fun and explain a lot of the stories that were left out when converting the books to screen. You can choose to fight for the good side (Elves, Men & Dwarves) and wage war against Sauron's hordes or choose the evil campaign and attempt to conquer Middle-Earth, with the Witch-King, Nazgul and other such beasts. The online mode is fantastic and offers a different dimension to the game, whilst the create-a-hero mode keeps the gameplay fresh, with different styles, attributes and powers to help design the perfect hero of Middle-Earth!
This pc game was around £15.00 when I bought it and it is well worth the money! The game is rated with a 12+, according to the box this is because of the violence that is contained in the game, I think it is because its a war game and does obviously entail killing people etc. The game I bought does say it it compatible with only windows XP but i've recently upgraded to windows vista and it installed and runs with no problems, which i'm very glad of as some of the other 'XP' games does run well. To play the game you use a keyboard and mouse and controlling the game is very easy. The game can be played online as well as offline. The online game is a tournament in which you compete with people worldwide trying to proceed through the ranks. The Battle For The Middle Earth 2 is a strategy game in which you can create your own hero for online and skirmish battles, and you can also choose the skills they have. The main differences between The Battle For The Middle Earth and The Battle For The Middle Earth 2 are: On the first one, you wrre limited as to where you could build your base. Whereas, on the second game, you can build your base anywhere on the map. On the first one, you couldn't create your own hero. On the second one you can create your own hero and choose their skills. Also, the second game has a couple of new options, for example what 'race' you want to play and play against. Race being the type of creature eg. Elves and Humans. On the second game there is 'War Of The Ring' mode which is a little different to the actual game, rather than your aim being to kill your opponent, you aim is to claim as much land as you can on the map. Overall, this game is well worth the money and is very addictive, personally I would say it is more for the men but maybe some women will really enjoy it. You can also buy the expansion pack for this game which is called The Rise Of The Witch-King.
This is simply a great RTS, probably not the best out there but it can rival some. The game is based on the fictional world of middle earth and it will transport you right into the middle of the great wars between good and evil. It will do this and to a very great effect. It still uses the same engine as the last game but the new factions and the new features make it a completely different game. The strategy is intense and the hero's are great, at least for me they portrayed exactly what a lord of the rings hero would be. The in game music is great and will create a very pleasant atmosphere. The graphics are amazing compared to most RTS's out there. The game play is singular and with no comparison. The maps provide realistic deatil which will fascinate even the most negative of people. So as a summary this is a must buy game if you loved the first Battlefield for Middle Earth.
In The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II, the sequel to the critically acclaimed RTS game The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth you now have the chance to experience all that Middle-earth was meant to be.
