Advantages: Great gameplay, original concept (bar Sims 1)
Disadvantages: Addictiveness can wear off after a while
The Sims is an RPG or role playing game, and made its debut as a PC game. Game publisher EA allowed Maxis to circulate their social simulation game to the masses as The Sims - The Sims 2 being the follow-up version which was vastly improved.
The Sims 2 allows you to create your own family or play as a pre-made character. It is very much third person in that you are able to control the actions of all the characters in the same family, and the idea is to create relationships with friends and loved ones, climb the career ladder and maintain family life.
There are many features to the game. For example, you can build the house your family will live in, decorate it, furnish it, give them a garden, teach your characters skills, exploit their traits and various other functions.
The Sims 2 is a great deal better than the original Sims in many ways. The graphics are much better - you can see features better and the picture is less blocky. There are aspirations that your character wants to achieve, making the game more interesting as you have more goals to work towards. The Sims have a life cycle that actually ends, unlike the original Sims where the characters lived forever. There are three towns, and if you get any of the add-on packs each of the towns have their own downtown areas and university campuses.
I think that The Sims is a great game - it keeps you addicted for a very long time - but it is one you will probably tire of. I find that I play on it a lot for a long period of time, then go off it for a while and whenever someone mentions it or I see the icon on my computer desktop I tend to go back to it for a while.
The Sims is good for adults and children alike, though I would say children of 12+ should play it, not anyone under that age, as some of the content can be violent or of a hinted sexual nature. Other than that I think the content is fairly suitable.
Summary: A great game that people of all ages will enjoy

- 12/01/09 Good review, but you could have done with putting a bit more about the different life stages and the different motives like hygene, comfort, energy and so on. But altogether good review and welcome to DooYoo
