Advantages: New dimension to the original game
Disadvantages: Very time consuming
So you bought The Sims 2, and though you were hooked for a while, you began to lose interest a bit and released that you do actually have a life of your own to run, instead of spending all your time ensuring the happiness of your Sims families.
Time passes by, and you enjoy the benefits of a social life, and then... like a bat out of hell, The Sims 2 University expansion pack bursts on to the scene.
"Oh no!" I hear you cry! Just as you had reajusted your skin to the presence of daylight, something new in the world of the The Sims 2 has come to grab you back and stick you to your computer chair until the early hours.
The Sims 2 University expansion pack offers another dimension for gamers who already own the platform game, The Sims 2. Now there is the opportunity to go to college/university, and therefore another life stage in the form of 'young adult'. Each neighbourhood can be assigned a pre-programmed university campus, or you can make one of your own if you so wish.
On campus you have the opportunity to move your young sims into dorms, unilets or fratenity/sorority houses, and many more features and functions have been added. You can now make out and 'woo hoo' at an earlier age, declare a major in a particular subject and work towards a degree, streak through the dorms and a great number of other new actions are available at the click of a button.
Sound and visual quality rely heavily on your computer's video card and sound card capabilities, and don't really vary much from the platform game, though in terms of in-game music the new genre of 'college rock' is available to listen to via the Sims' sound systems.
Once again Maxis holds you hostage in your own home as you dare yourself to step away from the screen for more than five minutes. The game is so addictive, as you strive to achieve a never ending number of goals.
I bought this game a few years back, and though my passion for it now comes and goes in stages, I know as soon as somebody mentions the game, or talks to me about The Sims 3's imminent release, I will be right back on my computer chair, plastered to the screen watching the highs and lows of my Sim family's life.
I believe this expansion pack is available for £14.99 on HMV.com, and is around the same sort of price on other online stores' websites. I also believe it is more expensive to buy it in-store.
