Advantages: Lots of depth

Disadvantages: Is it worth £20?

The Sims add-ons have recieved some fair criticism for not really doing enough to earn their price tag, although the first enhancement to The Sims 2, University, hopes to change that reputation. To be fair to it, it does add a whole new dimension to the series, and whilst I didn't spend the £20 RRP on it, and waited until it was about half that price, I can see that it was probably worth the money if you're a big Sims nut.

University has you taking a young Sim through the University process, earning the degree and then attempt to find a job with it. The game captures a lot of the essence of the University experience, allowing you to play in bands with those in your dorm, and of course to subsist on the most rudimentary of foods, such as noodles, and even to participate in keggers, although the game limits this to fruit juice as it obviously wants to be family friendly and not encourage binge drinking!

I was impressed with the level of depth as it pertains to housing - you can live in the dorms, or if you manage to grab a scholarship (which seems to be based purely on luck), you can live in the private sector, although this does take some of the fun out of the University experience (simulated though it is). Based on the American University system, you have to pick a major subject and then minors also, making you a well rounded Sim, and it takes four years complete as opposed to the UK's three. From here, your Sim will have to complete assignments if they wish to get a degree with honours and open themselves up to numerous possibilities!

The level of depth is undeniably impressive in University, from the social structure, to the work itself, to the financial implications, and whilst it only questionably justifies its price tag, it's going to certainly satify fans of the series.

Summary: A solid add-on
