Advantages: Seamless gameplay and entirely customisable.

Disadvantages: EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE!

As an avid fan of the Sims game series, I eagerly awaited the arrival of The Sims 3 and was not dissapointed. Having ordered the Collector's Edition, I received the game itself, game codes for two special in-game vehicles, a code giving me 1000 free points to use in the store on the Sims 3 website, a map of the neighbourhood, and a surprisingly well-made 2GB USB stick in the shape of the plumbob. I would definitely advise future purchasers to buy the Collector's Edition as it is worth the £5 ish extra.
For those who have played both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2, you will be pleased to know that the game runs incredibly on even low-spec computer systems, with no loading windows when moving around the neighbourhood. This is because the game itself is now built entirely of numerical formulae, which build the picture as you move, rather than large images being drawn from a file to create the neighbourhood. The new seamless neighbourhood also means that all sims in the town age in sync with the family you're playing instead of remaining dormant.
The new Create-A-Sim interface allows for strangely accurate Sim-copies of your aquaintances, if you so wish, with endless combinations of facial features and the ability to refine body types.
As a person who likes to build ridiculously extravagant houses for my Sims, the changes made to build mode have made a big difference. Everything can now be built every half-square with the build tool being far more receptive. Also, more options are now available in many build sections such as fences, stairs, railings, floor paints (to create paths, instead of using tiles outside), with all tiles, wallpapers etc being completely customisable in both colour and pattern.
All furnishings are also now able to be completely modified, with some especially nice items available from the store. There are also now very defined collections for those wanting to create very specific interiors be it eclectic, minimalist or art-nouveau.
All-in-all, EA's The Sims 3 is a fantastic game and a worthwhile purchase for anyone.

Summary: The perfect next step for The Sims series.
