Advantages: Better graphics, great new features, incredibly addictive
Disadvantages: Can be slow, lack of furniture, incredibly addictive
I have loved The sims since the beginning, so I was very excited to find out about the newest sims game. Sims 3.
It offers better graphics and newer features. As always EA does not disappoint. I am very pleased with the game. It is just as entertaining as all the previous games, if not more. The new features include the 'living neighbourhood' which is in fact very good. The fact you can flit between the neighbourhood buildings, and all yours sims with ease makes it so much more fun and interesting, and in this game life moves on as it does in reality.
The new features regarding rewards are also great. Each individual sim has it's own wants and desires, including their own individual life goal. Which when fulfilled give you sim mood points, improving the sims mood. As wells as sim points which can be exchanged to get new character features, such as needing the toilet less, and eating less, which obviously makes it easier to look after your sim. You can also improve your sims mood more by just being in 'beautiful surroundings' or having a nice meal. Equally having a bad meal or being around rubbish and dirt will have a negative effect on your sims mood.
The new create a sim features are also very nice. The fact you can change everything imaginable on the sims is great. I like the new character traits you can get with your sims, I just wish you could choose more than 5. Each character trait has it's own benefits, such as making your sims 'lucky' will make them more likely to find valuables and earn pay rises.
I love the fact you can change the colour of everything you put into your house, as you can create any room you can imagine. You can even change the colour of wall paper and carpet.
There are however some disadvantages, such as the spec you need for your PC. It is quite a demanding game in its requirements for your PC. In fact I was forced to update my PC before I could play it. If you have an average computer it could be slow loading and playing, and you may need to turn the graphics settings down, which defeats the objects of having better graphics.. There are also some glitches due to it being a fairly new game, but I have no doubt the EA will creates updates to improve these. I also do not like how fast your sims age, or the fact that you can make friends and then they move out of the town, but these can be changed, you can edit the life span of your sim, or simply turn ageing off. There is also an option to stop story mode. Which means the people around your town won't advance in their lives. I am also disappointed with the lack of furniture items, for some reason I expected more, but you can buy new items from the sims 3 website.
Overall I am happy with the quality of the game, and I believe the things I am disappointed with can all be resolved easily, and will improve as the game advances with new expansion packs. This is an incredibly addictive game, which can be seen as both a good thing as it will provide you with hours of enjoyment, or a bad thing as it consumes all your time.
Summary: A good game, and there are ways to improve on any bad features.

- 21/08/09 Sounds interesting. Never been much of a sims player but I hear its very popular amongst female gamers. If I get a new computer that can handle a game like this I think I'll buy it. |
