Advantages: luvvin'

Disadvantages: takes up lots of space

The Sims are little people who live in a neighbourhood which you, the player, controls. They interact with each other, build homes, have kids and climb their chosen career ladders with your guidance.

Sims Hot Date is an expansion pack which can only be used if you already have Sims installed on your computer. Be warned, it does take up a lot of space. You need 600MB free hard drive space to play.

It doesn’t take long to install but you do have to close down anything else whilst it is doing so.

In the original Sims the interactions between characters was limited to inside the houses but Hot Date introduces a whole new downtown area. There are restaurants, parks, shops etc already set up but you are able to design your own completely if you wish.

Hot Date also gives you over 40 new one-on-one interactions [including different kisses! – watch out for ‘fiery’, I’ve yet to find a Sim who enjoys that one! There are also five new characters to try these interactions out on – Blonde Bombshell, Femme Fatale, Dream Boat, Lounge Lizard and Jock – and more than 125 new items for your Sims to enjoy as well as 5 new characters.

The Sims can now shop thanks to this expansion. They can buy new outfits and presents for their friends or dates.

To get to the Downtown area the Sims simply call a cab and pay 50 simoleans. You can then chose which downtown area to visit. All your Sim characters will be hanging round for you to socialise with as well as the new characters mentioned above. You can chat to everyone and even go on a date if the sparks are flyin’. A picnic in the park or a restaurant are good options. If you go to a restaurant and have a waitress sit you in your booth then you can play footsie as well as kiss and cuddle.

Sims do seem to lose energy really quickly in the Downtown area which can be really annoying, but I suppose all that luvvin’ and shopping is enough to wear anyone out!
The graphics are good and have different levels depending on how fast you want the game to run.

For about a tenner this is one expansion pack which is really worth getting and does improve the game, just make sure you have plenty of space on your hard drive before you install.

There is a helpline number provided if you do encounter any problems and the website www.thesims.com has a wide choice of extra buildings, characters etc for you to choose from.
