Advantages: Great Gameplay, Great originality, Good Sound
Disadvantages: None
The Sims has revolutionised the way we view video games. The way in which the creators of this masterpiece have made these computer animated characters behave and react to everyday situations is simply amazing. The creators couldn't have made these people anymore lifelike if they tried. Basically the aim of this game is to create a community, a place where your own characters grow up, live and interact with others in a virtual world. You control everything from building their houses, designing their rooms to choosing their jobs and what they do in their spare time. You should seriously consider buying this game it is an absolute masterpiece. The thing that makes this game just so unordinary is that it has no ending, you decide when you want to stop playing or start again. You control everything, if you want to look at it in a better way you are god, ruler of everything. You can create a family of up to 8 people, you select their personality, their hair colour, you are even given the opportunity to write a small biography about their life if so so wish. You are given 25 points, these have to be distributed between 5 different traits. These are Neat, Playful, Nice, Outgoing and Active. These can be distributed in any way you wish, ultimately determining their personality. You all decide what clothes you want your Sim to be dressed in! You get the opportunity to buy one of 5 houses, or you can demolish your house and start again from scratch and build you own. Building your own house isn't as difficult as it may seem! It is similar to Rollercoaster Tycoon if you have ever played it in that the land is divided into a grid and you simply drag and click. Then you get to buy beds and lights and other accessories such as barbecues and basketball nets to keep your Sims entertained. The cool thing is you have to train your Sims in order for them to progress from poorly paid jobs in the beginning such as a Science Teste
r. For example get them to play chess to improve their logic skill. So that your house doesn't burn down when they decide to cook, get them to read a cookbook for example. Another really wicked feature is you can get burgled! Gameplay : Just as explained above, create and live the lives of your custom made family, make decisions that will influence their success. Graphics : Very nice. Everything is detailed and runs very smoothly. There is not the usual blocked look to the characters which is often seen in some games i have played. Sound : Relaxing elevator music is played in build and buy modes. There is no music on the live mode. You can however buy a radio for your Sims which plays latin, classical and rock music, this is quite good fun. Overall a superb game and i thoroughly recommend buying it, i did and never regretted paying one penny for it. It's price varies but in most shops it's around £30 which is quite reasonable for a game that never ends or gets boring. A great game.

- 14/01/02 I have to say I got bored with this very quickly it was all so repetitive and driven towards brain washing everybody into a materialist society. Isn't real life better and more real? |

- 13/01/02 I agree with everything you say, and I think the sound has a lot to do with it.
Maxis are obviously on a rollercoaster hit here with many expansion packs.
Nice op. |
