Theme Hospital
I'm sure everyone has heard of Theme Hospital before - it sequels the highly successful Theme Park - by Bullfrog.
Anyone who has complained about waiting times, doctor's service, the smell and atmosphere of a hospital, you wait till you play this and you will find that it is not so easy to run a hospital.
The aim of the game is to complete various missions, whose objectives will be normally to earn so much money, prevent a certain amount of people from dying, and to beat the other hospitals to go through the missions.
I think this game is incredible - even though it is very old now, I think that this is one of the best sims around.
There are so many things you can do in this game, and so many things you can customise. You start off with your building, with the opportunity to buy more land to build your offices, and special rooms.
This game has an air of comedy too - you can tell which patient has which disease most of the time by the look of them - the names of the diseases are funny like "Bloated Head" where the patient has a balloon type head - only to find that the treatment is to pop the head and replace it with a new one.
Look out for Elvis Presley too in a case of mistaken identity.
There are many factors to determine how well your hospital runs. Radiators are there to warm up the hospital - too cold or warm makes patients go to a different (rival's) hospital.
You can employ doctors, nurses, handymen, and receptionists. All of these people seem moody little beggars - so endeavour to keep them happy with pay rises, and staff rooms.
There are many diagnosis rooms - which you can research as the game develops. New diseases arise when you go through the game - and you must keep up with the technology.
You get inspectors coming into the hospital - which comment on the way you run the hospital and give you money according to how good it is. Money is very important here as you can't afford to spend, spend, spend.
There are so many things in this game I can't mention them all - everything from vomit to rats to epidemics and earthquakes. Simply buy this game to find them all out - you probably won't regret it.
The graphics are great for animation, the sound is limited but you can replace the CD once the game starts with a music CD.
The game does get harder, so you won't breeze through the game. All in All, 8/10

- 14/02/05 I was so hooked on this game for a while... it really is surprisingly addictive even though the graphics are fairly basic by today's standards and it gets repetitive after a while. I'm now tempted to go and find the CD again but if I did I'd be here half the night playing again ! Sue
