Disadvantages: Console Compromise kinda ruins the overall package for the PC

Thief is to my mind the best sneak em up game ever and constantly improves itself with each generation. This Current one falls short of expectation but still retains what Thief is all about.

For those who have trigger fingers and no patient for waiting and hearing till a Guard passes down a Hallway to make your move then this is not the game for you, this game rewards patients and punished those who rush in.

The levels are all very well done with lighting and mood being the key feature in each one, i think you will sometimes wonder how many shades of grey and black there are. This darkness aids you to hide from trouble, to help you a crystal shows you how visible you are.Each Object and person is sharp and nicely designed if a little shiny but does help you when you are in the darker levels as you don't want bump into things and make a noise.

Noise i hear you say, well lets just say this is what marks Thief from other games, make sure you have a decent sound card and speakers.... surround sound at best as sound alerts you to whatis coming around the corner and helps you plan ahead to either kill a guard or sne ak by if there is too many. What you walk on also makes a sound as the more noise you make the more the guard will be on the alert. Sound is so important that on one level it is the key to its reputation, look out for the cradle level!!!

Objectives for each level are laid out before the start and differs depending on the difficulty level...by the way there is only medium and no easy! To get to missions you have to navigate to them and i think this is the weakest part of the game as Guards chase you if they recognize you and force you to round around with a chain of them behind you till you can find a place to hide which is hard to do. Also i wish there were little side missions to do between levels as it does get boring just getting to them, i dont know something to add to the atmosphere.

All in all this game is great and forces you to plan at every stage and can be very rewarding but it does show its console roots, previous games were all on PC and the compromise to get this on the console shows. it just feels short of greatness as a result but for those who want something different i couldnt recommend it enough

Summary: Its the best there is, Medieval splinter cell!!!!
