When I visited a friend of mine last night for a few ‘Orange Juices’ he proudly showed me his new purchase a Playstation 2 and along with it had come Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001. The graphics struck me as very crisp and clear much better than any golf game that I have seen on the old PS1. The resolution was more like a PC game with very impressive rendering of textures. Even Tiger Woods himself looks the part and I don’t think we will get much better. Gone is the old ‘swingometer’ that we see on the old golf games and you use the left analogue stick to control the stroke, which makes it a lot easier to control. I know it sounds strange but you can now control the ball even when it’s left the club. You can give the ball spin for when it lands and it means concentration until the ball eventually comes to a halt. So on the whole the game looks good, plays well and has moved the golf sims to a new level. The better half was not impressed as we played the game all night and totally ignored the women. ‘Just one more go please love’. It’s now got me seriously considering purchasing a PS2, can’t wait for Santa to comes.
